Huh.  I was watching the waterfall for a while, alternating with doing CQ.  Sorry that I didn't see you Barry.

It sure seems like we should have seen each other on 40M this morning, but we know how that sometimes goes, HI

Happy valentine's day to you and the Mrs.

Valentine Sprint Soapbox

Rick - N7WE

It was challenging.  Got on at 0030 and gave up about 0215.  At this QTH 40m was closed for all practial purposes.  80m was a nightmare of QRN with lots of static that ebbed and flowed and plenty of crashes.  I didn't have a 160m antenna up so not sure how that was for others.  I've submitted my meager 13 Qs.  The uploader worked FB!  Thank you David!

Absolutely right Paula!  Family first!  Congrats on your anniversary and Happy Birthday to your grandson. Hope to work you, but I think it will be kind of iffy.  I'll be looking though.

I thought I would be home all day Friday, but it turns out I was invited to breakfast on my anniversary AND, it is also my grandson’s birthday! Sooooo, I will only be on Thursday evening and Friday early afternoon. I’ll try to hand out some YL points, but unfortunately early morning is the best time to reach me on 40 meters. So sorry guys, but family wins out. I’ll do my best though!

The Ø7Ø Club Valentine Sprint is just 24 hours away –

Friday, February 14 – 0000 UTC (Thursday, February 13 – 7:00 p.m. EST)

Friday, February 14 – 2359 UTC (Friday February 14 – 6:59 p.m. EST)

Sprint Rules – Work a 6 hour block of your choice over this 24 hour period. For Scoring, your 6 hour block will start with the hour you select on the Scoring page and continue for the next 6 hours

Work each station once per band. (Same station, same band is a dupe!)

Open to all licensed radio amateurs. Using 40M, 80M, 160M

For Rules and detailsClick Here: Valentine-Sprint-Rules

2 Entry Categories:

Male:     OM

Female: YL

4 Power Categories:

QRP < 5 W
Low < 25 W
Medium < 50 W
High < 100 W (See Rules)

Exchange:
Callsign,  Name,  OM or YL and  State/Province/Country (SPC)

Example: “K7PAX  Paula  YL  WA”  (Paula has promised to be there for us!)

Call: “CQ 070 Valentine Sprint”

All entry logs
must be received within 1 week after the event ends.

With the dedicated work of David, K9DWR, we again have the ability to upload your log rather than emailing it. See Rules Page.

With 3 bands to choose from, you can optimize your luck with propagation. It is helpful to post your intentions to QSY on the Reflector. Also, be sure to use PSKReporter and to Spot calls seen.

If you do not yet have the TOP BAND (work 20 on 160M) or the 88 Tri-Band (3 YL on 3 Bands) Endorsements, this Contest gives you an excellent chance to grab both.

Thanks for all the hard work you folks are doing to keep the club alive.  I appreciate it.  I really like the contests and endorsements.  Chasing 366 now.  Still have about 50 days to catch; most of January when I travel a lot.

David Rock, Stan Robinson, Rick Butz and I are working hard on trying to get the endorsement checker, contest checker (David has a great new one ready for the Valentines Sprint), and other files in place prior to Google deprecating their APIs.  Getting this working is important as all our club data is maintained in a google docs spreadsheet, and also on hamclubs.info.  To keep the club going we need to get API's working, obtain independence from hamclubs.into and maintain everything until such time as it can all be assimilated into a database.

The 070 Club will survive, but progress is slow, be patient with all of us.

Re: Where were you?

Rick - N7WE

At this QTH, the PSK portion of 20, 40, and 80 was overwhelmed with RTTY contesters.  Lots of them run full legal limit which makes PSK virtually impossible - even with the 400 Hz. roofing filter engaged.  I was able to get one QSO both Friday and Saturday to keep the daily run going.  Last night after the contest ended it was easy to make a PSK QSO.  Gentlemen's agreement band plan notwithstanding, RTTY is legal in our portion of the band, so it is just grin and bear it until the contest is over.  One thing I didn't see though was FT-8 in our segments!
