LONP #428 for John, KG5OIB

stan W9SMR

Loyal Order of the Narrow-Banded Phaseshifters – LONP

Congrats, John on a fine job. Just 5 days short of his 2nd year membership anniversary as 070 MEMBER #2592, John, KG5OIB, submitted his log of 492 QSOs showing 101 QSOs with fellow 070 members.

John, of Decatur, TX, joins 427 members who have achieved this high level of performance by contacting 100 fellow members. During 2019, only 12 members made this Endorsement.

The upcoming PSKfest Contest starting tomorrow (Saturday, January 4 at 00:00 UTC, Friday, January 3 at 7:00 p.m. EST) will provide a most excellent opportunity to make contacts with fellow members and grab your own LONP Endorsement.

For the full Rules for LONP click here: LONP Rules

Go for it and good luck. See you on the waterfall!!

Re: Importance of PODXS

I will be back on PSK once I get the rest of the new stuff I need. Suppliers seem to take a lot of time off around the holidays so the last piece I need (a cable for my SignaLink) probably won't be here until just after I leave on a two week trip. Looking forward to a lot of PSK time at PODXS events on whatever bands I can find it.

PSKfest – Reminder - Tomorrow

stan W9SMR

The Ø7Ø Club PSKfest is just 1 day away -

Saturday, January 4 - 0000 UTC (Friday, January 3 - 7:00 p.m. EST )

to Saturday, January 4 – 2400 UTC (Saturday, January 4 - 7:00 p.m. EST )

This is a 1 day event – Friday evening and Saturday in US.

Sprint Rules – Work as many stations as possible in the allotted time using PSK31 mode.

Work each station once per band. (Same station, same band, is a dupe!)

Open to all licensed radio amateurs. Using 80M thru 10M (No WARC Bands)

For Rules and detailsClick Here: PSKfest Rules

4 Power Categories:

QRP < 5 W
Low < 25 W
Medium < 50 W
High < 100 W (See Rules)

Exchange:
Callsign,  RST  and  State/Province/Country (SPC)    eg: “W9SMR  599  FL”

Call: “CQ PSKFEST”

All entry logs
must be received within 1 week after the event ends.

In case the on-line Scorer is not performing correctly, the contest will be scored manually. Upload as usual.

With 5 bands to choose from, you can optimize your luck with propagation. It is helpful to post your intentions to QSY on the Reflector. Also, be sure to use PSKReporter and to Spot calls seen. Under current propagation conditions, we need all the help we can get.

This is one of our most popular contests. In 2016 we had a record 155 logs submitted. Last year that slipped to 65 logs. Last year’s Top Dawg was Pete, NN9K, of Colona, IL, with 214 QSOs.

Let’s see if we can beat that turnout.

73,

Stan

Thanks from #2720

Tom Means

Thanks to all for welcoming me to the club.  While I am not new to ham radio I am fairly new to digital modes so looking forward to making many contacts with you. I will be on the upcoming PSKFEST, at least for part of Saturday.

It sounds like you have been reviewing your membership requirements and for what it is worth here are my two cents worth, from a new member perspective.

I have joined and remained a member of several other groups over the years, OMISS, CCN, 10-10 etc.  They all have either no or a nominal fee to join, so I think your no charge to join is fine. A few of these clubs DO have annual fees to keep things going however, so maybe something to consider down the line.

As for the number of contacts required to join:

OMISS requires 2 contacts with OMISS members
CCN requires 100 "points" which can be a combination of calls, states, etc.
10-10 requires 10 contacts with members

While 50 contacts to join this group does not seem to be that many to those already into PSK mode, it probably does eliminate some potential members from joining.  I know that I was on quite a few hours for a couple days prior to joining as was only able to generate 28 contacts.  Fortunately I had logged some other PSK contacts a few years ago when I was researching PSK, so was able to qualify to join.  It would seem to me that 10 contacts would be reasonable and may increase the interest in the club.

Finally,  I don't know if you have ever thought about doing some nets.  These are very popular and all of them use NetLogger which makes  it easy to follow activities, make contacts etc.  I know that CCN runs some PSK nets.  I realize these require net controllers so maybe way early to consider trying that route but an idea.

Anyway,  glad I found this club and looking forward to many contacts this weekend.

OK, this was supposed to go out at 7 PM EST last night, but I screwed up!  So
hurry!  You only have about an hour and 45 minutes to make your 1/1/2020 QSO!
On the plus side, if you miss today, it's not a long wait to pick it up at the
beginning of next year (just one extra day to pick up). It's a lot better to
miss at the beginning of the year than the end. :-)

The important one not to miss is leap year Feb 29.

Interested in taking a run at 365, Leap Day, and 366?  Today is the day to get started.  You don't have to complete it all in one year.  But it can and has been done.  Just one contact in each 24 hour UTC day.  This is the first year since its inception in 2016 that it can be completed in one year!  If you miss Leap Day, Feb. 29, the chance to complet in just one year will not come around again until 20124.  In 2016, 9 people completed it in a straight run.

I just want to weigh in on this and encourage everyone who has not yet earned the 365/366 endorsements to go for it, no matter when you start.

I’ve had an incredible amount of fun chasing 070 endorsements.

But none of them have been as fun to chase as the 365/366 endorsement.  I learned a lot about operating while getting all the QSOs I needed.  Beyond honing existing skills and building new ones, the need to be on the air chasing QSOs every day meant I spent much more time on the air having fun.

It’s just a fabulous good time.  Go for it!
