Re: Club Crisis

I too Jim would hate to see this club fold.  It is actually one of a very few I enjoy.  I have quite a computer background, but all my known skills are very old now and I had NO clue what others were talking about when they addressed what to do.  HI HI  I would be of no help and with declining health I surely would not as I don't even know from day to day if I will be able to get on a radio/computer or not.  I hope out there somewhere in 070 land there are people who have the skills who will help, even if only some until they can retire then help a lot more.

Re: JT ?

I’m seeing two psk31 traces, and KE5HL calling CQ using Contestia 4/500 up at 140722.5 or so.

I see one mode I can’t identify up near 14070+1900 Hz.  Based on the timing it doesn’t seem to be any of the JT or FT modes.  Something that’s mfsk and about 150 Hz wide.

Jerry-
I agree...lots of bogus grids listed on QRZ.  But...if you click on the "show map" that uses the listed address.  I think QRZ downloads the address from the FCC based on call.  But I'm not sure. I find the QRZ address and displayed map location agree.  Then if you click on the "Explore on HamGrids Maps" below the map box, it shows the map and grid for the address, not the claimed grid in the details.  I trust that a whole lot more than the grid listed in the details.

Just went through my log searching for PSK contacts in MO.  First I checked QRZ.com and was pleasantly surprised to find that Grid EM39 has over 420 hams listed.   BUT, many of them are in states like IA, MN, AR,. AZ, KS, and OR for example; so those stations weren’t listed in the proper Grid.  Unfortunately, QRZ.com is rife with these types of errors on Grids a& IOTAs – bummer.  This is why one should always double check QRZ by searching for stations by GRID feature in same grid one is looking for.  Sad to say, I eliminated many station from my log .  As an aside also found a bunch of Russian stations listed in my log as being in MO ?   aNot sure how that happened, but it got cleaned up.

Anyhow, what I’m saying is to never entirely trust QRZ.com with their data.  For example:  N9JQK is listed in CO, but actually resides in TX … oops on his part for failing to update.

Jerry, what time do you normally try 15 and 10?   I'd like to try to work you on those frequencies too.

Well, I would say I had some success today.   Worked two contacts from my North Texas qth.  I worked John KC3FL in Florida, and worked a station in Central Oregon!    Did anyone else have any success today?

I know most of us (points finger at myself) stick to 20 and 40, but I would certainly like to work the other bands, especially if I know someone else might be there too.

Dick -
Let me add my thanks to you and Kathy for this trip and all the grids you activated.  It is a wonderful contribution to all 070 members.  I thought that this trip was actually better propagation (at least into central Florida) than some of the others.  You gave a lot of us grids we would never have gotten otherwise.  So THANK YOU so very much to both of you.  You guys have been the highlight of this Fall.  PSK Travelers rule!

Many thanks for all the new grids this trip !!!    It was fun working you from your trip. Hope y’all had a lot of fun and saw the sights.

Was hoping you’d make EL59, but won’t lose any sleep over it.   I’ll get it when time is right.

Safe travels back to FL.

Started out from Lake Charles, LA heading for Cameron Prairie NWR, which is just in side the grid.  GPS took us about 4.5 miles out of the way so we arrived at the grid later than we thought.  Started call CQ after a short visit at the visitor center and managed to work Barry, VA7GEM just as we pulled into the wildlife drive and started our bird watching. Barry was good copy to begin with, then faded out and then came back strong.  So many birds we went QRT for the rest of the trip around the refuge.  When we exited, I gave Jerry, N9AVY a call and saw him on the waterfall, weak, but got enough for a QSO.  Happy to give a new grid to fellow 070 members.

The bad news, is due to a time constraint we will not be able to activate EL59 this trip.  We go thru LA usually once a year so maybe next time.  We are on our last day of our 30 day trip and would like to say thanks to all 070 members that we contacted during this trip.  It is nice to reach out and visit with friends. Kathy,  my xyl and pilot, sends her regards also.  She has gotten into the grid chase and has the software on her computer, so when she does our trip planing she can see what grids we will be going thru.
