Don't need DM51, but I'll be looking for you! I have never worked someone from the Titan site.  Hope it will be you.

DM51 & Titan Missile Museum

Richard Rohrer

We probably won't be leaving the timeshare until around 1600 UTC and it will be about 2 1/2 to 3 hours to get into the grid.  So probably around 1900 UTC.  I will post and text when we are getting near.

Also, Sunday will be the day we are going to the Titan Missile Museum.  Probably around 2000 UTC if we have access to the big antenna.  Will probably make some calls on psk31 and RTTY and then switch to SSB for a few.

Well today's effort for DM32 worked pretty well. Worked all of the usual suspects that wanted the grid and a couple of others. DM31 did not go as good. Only worked a couple of stations on PSK31. Did work Hawaii and Japan on FT8, so the band was open to the West I guess. Did not see any East coast stations on psk31, Jerry report that he could copy me 599 working the WA2 station in CO.

If it looks like we may be in DM41 and DM51 probably during the weekend.

Sometimes prop is weird.   Recall crossing from Wisconsin at LaCrosse into Minnesota over the Mississippi River.  Band was hopping with signals, but when I got into MN (a mere 7 miles or so) the band was dfeader than a door nail.  That was in better days of propagation several years ago.

Jerry-
Propagation is weird isn't it?  Earlier Dick was solid into central Florida, but I saw you work hard to get him in the log.  Now you've got him 599 and I have narry a trace here.  One thing I learned when we were on the road, propagation WILL vary!  Mile by mile and minute by minute!  You can take that one to the bank.

Patience payed off. Finally copied Dick well enough to call him and luckily he saw me after several tries.

Problem aggravated by strong signals, some within 50 Hz. But we made it. DM32 in the log!!

160 M Great Pumpkin Sprint Results

stan W9SMR

160 M Great Pumpkin Sprint Results

This year we faced several challenges. The first was the lousy propagation conditions which led to a low turnout. And then there was the discrepancy between the Rules and the Scoring. More on that later.

This year there were 10 logs submitted with 2 High Power, 7 Medium Power and 1 Low Power and 12 States worked. This is down from last year’s 12 logs. In 2015, there were 24 logs submitted with 22 States worked.

Top Dawg and 1st in Medium Power 50W was Peter, NN9K of Colona, IL, with 11 QSOs, and 121 points. Peter has finished near or at the top in many of our contests.

First Place
in the High Power 100W category was Bill, N4GBK, of Hertford, NC with 9 QSOs and 72 points. Bill always near the top.

First Place
in the Low Power 25 W category was Steve, W3HF of Collegeville, PA with his one QSO (with N4GBK).

Second Place in Medium Power 50W was Joe, WM9I, of Flora, IL with 7 QSOs and Third Place was John, KC3FL of Inverness, FL with 7 QSOs.

Second Place in the High Power 100W category was Jerry, KD5JHE of Oxford, MS with 4 QSOs.

The new “All Amateurs Welcome” policy continues to enhance our overall experience. Special recognition is due to Willis, N5JDT of Oxford, MS with 2 QSOs. Thank you Willis for participating and we look forward to greeting you soon as a new member.

Note that the Top Dawg Certificate and Rollo Dog Tag will be reserved exclusively for members.

Thanks to all who submitted logs.  Stickers will be in the next mailing if we can find a new
Director - Mailing and Distribution (Sticker Boss). Contact me with questions about that important role in our club.

And this brings us to the issue that arose when Steve, W3HF attempted to upload his log in the Low Power 25 W category found in the Rules. The Scoring page contained no such category and the labeling of other categories was wrong. Steve volunteered to correct the discrepancy by rescoring manually. Also affected was the category of NN9K who used Medium Power 50W per the Rules but was uploaded as “Medium Power 100W”. The corrected results are shown in the table below.

It is not too early to start thinking about your participation in the next PODXS 070 Event, the Triple Play Low Band Sprint. This is another great opportunity to put some 160m Q’s in the log for the Top Band Endorsement.

Triple Play Low Band Sprint

Dick:

Don’t need much in DM30’s other than DM36 &  DM38, but  you ain’t going that-a-way.  I’ll try to be around a bit unless I have other stuff to do.

Today  I did filing that wasn’t done in past 2 years – ugh !    Got rid of lots of unnecessary paperwork and filled a couple trash bags. Cleaning up office in preparation for shutting down business on Nov. 30.   Sent out letters to remaining customers today informing them that I’ll be cutting them loose.   Good feeling to make an end to all this.

See you on the waterfall !

Looks like we are heading for DM32 and DM31 tomorrow.  It will take some time to get there from Phoenix, so I will post when we are leaving the area of good cell coverage with an estimate of when will will be in the grids.  We are heading for Organ Pipe National Monument then on to Tuscon for a couple of days.  We are doing some other day trips and if they go into any other grids I will post.

Sorry Steve we generally do not drive at night, one of the things about getting old.  You really need to work on the retirement thing, its really nice, hi hi.  I think Rick and I would recommend it.

And Rick, it will probably be some time in the next couple of days before we get to use the big antenna.  I will post when we are going to the missile museum.

When we leave Tuscon we are heading across NM to TX and down to Big Bend.  I will post the grids we are going thru when we leave.
