I hope everyone here knows my feelings on HOA’s and Ham Radio.  You have 2 choices:  10- Move  2) Eliminate HOA.

Ken:

There were several stations operating contest last night, but the West Coast was totally absent.

Have a decent 80m antenna and station here in Northern Illinois, but best I could do was Mt & ID. There were stations from CA, WA & B.C., but none got through to me. Tossed the towel in at 0500 UTC/GMT.

Your inability to participate in contest was undoubtedly due poor propagation.  I was lucky to work 22 stations in 18 states.

Hopefully propagation will improve over the next couple years. Hang in there.

Re: 80M Sprint - Sorry-My Error

I doubt it changes anything except to add a little confusion and the wrong number of participants in the Jay Hudak Memorial 80M Sprint results.

But, I mistakenly uploaded my contest log as W9SMR, not as W9SMR/9. The correct log eliminates a number of mis-matched entries.

So I am in there twice right now and I do not know how to back out the erroneous log.

Sorry for messing up the results sheet.

On the positive side, I had a lot of fun chasing folks around.

Thanks, all!

I developed this habit a couple years ago. HRD auto loads the contacts details from QRZ
which I visually check against what is provided over-air. An top of head estimate I think
about 10% will have a discrepancy that can be challenged on air or followed up with an email
for clarification. I think I have maybe taken the process a step too far due to my OCD and
insatiable need for total accuracy in the log.
Hope the sprint went well for you
now 3:30am local and still hoping for a contact.

Jerry,

I saw your trace several times over the space of an hour or so, but the copy was just not good enough to make the contact.  I also saw W8TOM's call decode a few times, but again not good enough copy for a contact. I received a QSL card from him a couple days ago for an earlier contact on 20M.

I managed to get one Idaho station N7UVH and that was it.  I did see Milt N6MG a couple times but no contact there as well. Was surprised that I did not see Barry.

FB on your beam heading. We need a few more of these beam headings to confirm his actual location as VP2 where this a transmitter.  He’s really cheating a lot of people .. probably without realizing it.  There may be language problems in that he speaks Indonesian and probably not English.

When I spotted him I swung the beam to Indonesia to reply to him and lost him.
When I came back to ESE heading he was strong.
That is Carribian heading for me.
Hope to see you in a few hours.

I’m starting to have very serious doubts as to his transmitting QTH.   Heard him on today and swung the beam to the SSE and he was really strong which lends credence to the YB8MAN/VP2 QTH.   SSE would put his actual transmitted location in the Caribbean.   He’s probably using a remote site down there which means that many of those who worked him in the past year or so many not have actually worked Indonesia.  Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but this is just an educated guess when he’s the only signal coming in from the Indonesia area.  My suspicions arose when I worked him on 40m and he was 599  when there was no other DX coming in from anywhere at this low in sunspot cycle.

Many PSK31 operators do not use directional antennas and are not able to get a heading on a transmitted signal. Not their fault because they have limited space and/or budget; possibly even HOA restrictions.

I believe this needs further exploration in the form of email/letter to Badrin for confirmation. He may not be familiar with DXCC rules regarding “remote transmitters” and therein is perhaps some confusion.

Steve, W3HF, had same instincts a couple weeks ago as to validity of actual transmitter site.

We’ll have to wait and see….
