Re: Reminder - KC9UR Pontoon Portable APE this weekend!

I am looking forward to earning certificate #7.  Being a optimist I already have the frame for the certificate purchased.
I will advise anyone who has not received or seen the KC9UR APE certificate it’s a work of art and well worth the chase.
Good luck to all the APE hunters.

Hi All,
This is just a reminder that Stan (W9SMR/9) and I (KC9UR) will be operating our 7th consecutive KC9UR Pontoon Portable APE starting this Friday, Aug 9th, and ending on Sunday, Aug 11th.  We look forward to working many of you.  As in past years, we have a nice paper QSL for any who request it, and will be providing a really nice APE Hunter Certificate for those persistent enough work us on 3 bands.  We realize that with propagation in the doldrums, it will be much more difficult to obtain a certificate than in past years, but we believe that you are up to the challenge.  Kudos to those who have earned certificates in the past, and especially to Jeff Walsh, W3WMU, who has earned a certificate every single year (6 in all).  To help the hunters from our end, both of us will be using efficient multi-band (80-10m) antennas (an OCF dipole and a ladder-line fed doublet).  We will also be using a prototype 40-30m magnetic loop that was designed, built and loaned to us for evaluation by Dennis Blanchard, K1YPP.  We will keep everyone updated on our progress, current bands being worked, etc. on this forum.  We are looking forward with anticipation and excitement to reconnect with old friends and make lots of new ones.  Hoping to work you soon!

Stan:

Well, it took about 3 weeks to work those 3 members.  They are few and far between. Not like the “good old days” a few years back when bands were open more.  The road to 1000 will probably take another year to realize.  But now that I’m finally , reluctantly retired guess I’ll have more time to chase LONP.

However, thinking seriously about moving out of Illinois due to all the inflationary taxes imposed by new Governor.  Looking towards Wisconsin or perhaps Iowa.  It will take a while because there’s a basement and garage full of stuff that needs to go.  My rent just went up because landlord says he had a 5% increase in taxes; gas tax cuts down on driving (38 cents /gallon)  and newest tax is that Illinois will after Jan `1 will tax a vehicle you trade in (double taxation ?).  Illinois used to be a nice state, but it seems to be circling the drain.

The current list of club members for several logging programs can be found at hamclubs.info

There are data files in different formats. There is a current member list, call sign list, call changes list, LONP list for 070 club.  There are also member lists for many of the other ham clubs for your use.

I personally use MixW, the MixW icons file contains information and icons for every member.  If I click on a trace, when the member sends his call sign, an icon is displayed by the call sign showing me his name, and 070 number.  Quite handy for me.

Check out David's site, you will be surprised at what is available to you.

Karl,

I was successful with 2 N-S QSOs on 17M today from Indiana (about due west of Rochester)

W5DP, Dusty in Texas and AG4QX, Bill in Florida. I saw Jim, K5SP, Jerry, N9AVY and one other but was unable to grab them.

It's not the Propagation that is lacking, it's the Participation.

Call CQ!!  If everybody monitors, there is nothing to hear!

working out the kinks but hopefully be on the air  soon. So sit tight I'm
