FW: [K9RN] Grid Square Look Up
Give this an address and it tells you the Maidenhead Grid Square ... https://whatsmylocator.co.uk/ ... works on USA locations too. Try Tokyo or Perth for grins 8-)
Tried it works okay. Think this has been posted here before.

Re: Wide signals today
Bad Signal Jerry, I understand you're position, however I hope you, and all PODXS members, if I have a signal 3 acres wide, you would let me know either 'on the air' or by shooting me an e-mail. I assure you there will be no indifference or threats. The last thing I want to do is interfere with folks, or tarnish my LONP.

Re: Wide signals today
Mike:
Used to do that as an OO, but the results were everything from indifference to threats. I gave up on emailing people. Caught one ham I knew personally splattering all over … 50 kHz. Either side of primary frequency … and he fixed it, but the next day he was back offending as usual; this was after a personal phone call !
I would never ID a station as being wide, but I will say that most are relative newbies to PSK and that it’s probably ignorance rather than deliberate intention.

Jerry,
You could always try looking up call signs for the offenders in QRZ.com and sending them a private, polite e-mail to advise them of the problem. I know I appreciate it if someone tells me my signal is causing problems. You can’t see your own signal.
I also try to give an honest RSQ rather than a courtesy 599. That third digit describes visible pairs, and if it’s less than a 9, you can work with the other station to try to correct the problem - less transmit power, less audio gain, whatever.

Re: Fooling with alpha list ...
Yup, it’s always fun getting to know someone better than just the normal QSO data ! I’m mostly a ragchewer, but I respect those who aren’t and usually just barely make a contact… many don’t even give out all the usual data.
I someone wants to ragchew I’m for it, but there are days when I have to be some place and that’s not always practical.

Having more than one QSO with someone, especially an actual rag chew, is kind of the point, isn’t it? It’s nice when you get to catch up with someone you’ve talked to before. :-)

Wide signals today
Several wide signals with sidebands almost 100 Hz either side of primary frequency. I check this by turning off AGC and inserting attenuation.
Either people have processors turned on, too much power (50 watts should be enough), there should be no indication of ALC action or they’re overdriving. All that is happening is that QRM is being created for other stations.
I would publish call signs, but that’s not a gentlemanly thing to do. Besides, I’m no longer an OO.

If you try for FN65 in Maine, it seems the towns of Danforth, Princeton, and Alexander might be close to where you’re at now. If it doesn’t fit you schedule, that’s ok.

Fooling with alpha list ...
Been trying to figure out who I’ve worked over the past 11 years; so, did some folling around with th generic alpha list of callsigns. I took a few hours, but I now have various calls and members numbers highlighted in Yellow and my calls in red. One of the things I noticed after setting up calls in alpha-numeric sequence was that many of the stations worked seemed to fall into groups or runs over the year; sometimes there will be a dozen or so . One of the other things I noticed was that I worked KD5HIP & KD5HOP, but they were months apart.
Also found that there were 32 stations worked which were either Silent Keys or were dropped for other reasons. But I guess I got credit for them.
Interesting that the majority of DX stations worked were between 2010 and 2013 which coincided with my WTW efforts. When conditions return in a couple years it might be a good idea to go after the WTW endorsements/awards and work everything in sight when one has the time. DX activity seems heavier on weekends.
Did all this to make it easier to find stations I’ve heard, but neglected to work for whatever reasons. Hate to get pushy on the air and tail end a QSO or just bust into it. Find it frustrating when I hear a station I need for LONP and he clears our never to b heard again !
Well…. Had some fun revisiting old calls from the past while doing this. There was probably a better way to do this , but my computer skills are lacking.
