Re: signal link and windows 10

The Signalink is a USB sound card, it doesn't do anything in the way of serial port rig control, so I don't think it is going to solve your issue.

Brian - I have a SignaLink that I use with my FTdx3000 instead of the built in sound card. It works great!

It's very nice to have the TX level knob just sitting there for tweaking as you move across the waterfall or change bands.

Good luck with it!

I put snap on toroids/chokes on keyboard/mice in shack and that seemed to fix most RFI problems.  Use of a tuner also help if antenna is somewhat mismatched.  Seldom run more than 50 watts. Anyone running 100 watts or more should just have to live with RFI !   😊

Hi Paul,

I find that your solution seems to be the norm sometimes for RFI problems.  I moved USB cable about a foot one day in the operating position and when I transmitted on 30 mtrs the garage door opener stopped working until it was power cycled. XYL was not happy about that or killing her computer mouse when I operated 15 mtrs.  Seems like sometimes "dumb luck" solves the problem rather than a well engineered solution.

I struggled with RFI causing all sorts of weird computer behavior with my TenTec Eagle/Signalink USB/Raspberry Pi setup no end.  Throwing ferrite chokes on things helped some but did not fix the problems.  Rearranging the gear helped even more but did not fix the problem.  Then one day I needed to shorten the antenna feedline and whacked about 10 feet of coax off and put a new PL-259 on the end.  RFI problems vanished.

I can’t prove the problem was the PL-259 on the unshortened coax.  But I suspect it had some problem.  It was, in fact, one of the very first PL-259’s I ever put on, so it’s quite possible I did something stupid.

Unfortunately with this sort of thing the path to solving the problems always seems to involve exhausting every possibility one at a time, until you give up in disgust, only to change something randomly weeks later and observe the problem go away.

The filter button on the front panel lets you select your filters.  I always start out wide then you can switch to a narrow filter if required.  Also in the FLDIGI configuration menu under waterfall, then FFT processing.  You can also change the upper and lower limits.  I set my lower limit at 0 and the upper limit at 3000.

Been looking for you on both 20 & 40 Jonathan.  So far no luck.  Will check again a little later.  Not seeing much activity.  The "geomagnetic storm" is taking the bands in and out.  If you have cell/internet up there, post when you are on!

No problem! Glad that helped.

I think the next one is just either pressing or pressing and holding the filter button to open up the bandwidth.

Only problem left is that my FLdigi water fall is only about 1000 hertz wide.  I was able to adjust TWN PBT to get it that wide. I will look in book for bandwidth setting….got to be something simple.

Thanks for the help Matt.

I use that rig for most of my portable ops and it does great with PSK.

The trick - and I got stuck with this issue as well when I first got it - is to go into the second menu (hold the menu button down to get the first menu and then hold it down again to get the second menu) and make sure "DATA MOD" is changed to "U" for USB Port

Otherwise, it will try to listen on the analog input ports when in DATA mode.

Hope that helps - unfortunately I don't have access to the rig right at the moment so I can't take any pictures. Feel free to contact me if you need any clarification.

Cheers,

Hi Wolf,

Sounds a lot like RF is getting into his CAT circuit.

Make certain that the rig, PC and cable shields are all bonded to a single
point - and grounded (big debate about what that means for RF.)

Also, wrapping the CAT cable through a ferrite toroid for as many turns as
practical may be of some help.

Hi all -

Asking for a friend ... (really, I use a TS-590sg :D)

Does anyone have any advice on how you interface an IC-7000 (note, just
"7000") for PSK operations?

My friend can copy reliably and occasional do one transmission, but it
looks like
he loses CAT control almost immediately.

Does anyone know the serial parameters for the IC-7000 (like
"9600-8-N-1 DTR and RTR high") ? And do we need to make any adjustments
through the menu system on the rig ? Any other advice ? ("Get a newer
rig"
might be appropriate but wouldn't be helpful in this case ... )

THANKS and 73 de WA6I (Wolf)
