Today 8/16/2018 John - KD8JSP from Detroit, MI completed his 366!  This makes John only the 34th member of our fine club to achieve this lofty goal.

Please join me in congratulating John on achieving this very challenging endorsement.  It takes determination, persistence, and discipline.  But as John just showed us, it CAN be done.  Well done, John!

Matthew King - AK4MK

I second Irv's advice.

20m during daylight and 40m around dusk and into dark seems to still work OK as far as picking up the odd contact.

We have the 80m Sprint coming up soon - there'll be plenty of contacts there! :-)

Yes, I am having the same problem with being on and not seeing any activity.  I think that during this time of poor conditions we might do better if we worked a little smarter.

Maybe try 20M during the daylight hours on the hour and half hour, and then switch to 40M at dusk.

When many of us are on the air during those two windows it might help to brighten up the waterfall.  How long is the window....what ever your patience and persistence can handle.

Paul — I usually get on or check PSK signals on all bands, however, for the past month or so I have been really getting into the SKCC club and on CW quite a bit, mainly on 40M but I still check out the PSK frequencies.

Richard Rohrer

What I found interesting when I worked WB4M/P he was the only station I could copy until I called him.  Then a Cuba station started calling CQ on the frequency and another station kept trying to call me.  We moved and made contact.  Made several others that day including G land.  Conditions seemed really up and down.  I have been on several times and made a contact and have been told I was the only station that the other station could see on the waterfall.  I guess the propagation gods are not pleased right now, hi hi.

It is what it is. Shiny new toys pull people in.
I was successful in having a 40 minute conversation a couple weeks ago, that’s something FT8 will never be able to do. Let everyone have their fun. :-)

Yesterday conditions were so bad the radio was actually noticeably different in its sound. I thought there was something wrong with it with how weird it sounded.
I’m still seeing plenty of signals, but my crippled setup can’t really get out and QSB is terrible. The contacts I have been able to make have all been with heavy fading, but they are there to be made.

I wondered same thing during my unsuccessful APE attempts.  I made only FIVE contacts in 3 days... Running QRP levels sure didn't help but right now I only have a KX2 radio. I got bounced around pretty good all day.

I guess by now everyone knows another new mode, FT8CALL, is out and it will further siphon off PSK users.

But during my APE outing, I was not expecting the intrusion of other modes into PSK territory.. I think the only mode I didn't hear was SSTV, hi.    One special event station in Illinois parked on .072 and ran PSK125, Hellschreiber, and RTTY.    I guess I sum up by saying use it or lose it, lol.

I  echo Paul's comment . endorsements are fun !     There is no competition, seldom are there time limits and you work at your own pace.  The only one you're competing against is YOU !

Know it's harder with low sunspot activity, but that adds to the fun.  I did many of my endorsements when propagation was a whole lot better, but you guys & gals who finish endorsements in lousy conditions are better & patient operators.

SPAM filters aren't 100% accurate. The number of false positives can be surprising. If you didn't open the emails, how do you know they were spam? If you have an up-to-date anti-virus program running, you shouldn't worry about opening the emails---just don't follow any link in them.
