Looking for you both on 20m and 40m but seeing only a few faint traces on 20, none of which seem to be you. 40m looks dead to me. Will keep looking… we need only a brief opening!

APE Activation

wd4diy@...

I will be doing an APE Activation August 13-17.
Will be running from Natahala National Forest in the mountains of western North Carolina near Highlands, NC
I will post here 24 hours before activation and then post band/frequency when ready to go.  This will also be good for POTA if you are chasing Parks.
I plan to be on 15/20/40 and will be capable of running 50 watts ( though it is seldom necessary ) and will try to be on for several hours.  Will call CQ PTOA or PODXS APE, call me on either and if you send me a PODXS membership number, I will reply with mine.  I will also be spotted on the POTA board.

Hope to hear you,

Hi all,

I will go APE this Wednesday and Thursday I will call CQ APE and add /P
to my callsign.   I will be operating 20 and 40 meters. My only rig
right now is an Elecraft KX2 so this will be 100% QRP on battery power.
Hope you guys can hear me!   I plan to be on from 10AM to 4-5 PM,
depending on condx and wx.  Sorry for short notice, and I also hope to
try this each Wed/Thurs. of the month.

Looks like I might be free at the end of the week for an APE event in Maryland.  Will be heading to Deep Creek Lake or thereabouts for some fishing and radio fun.  Look for me on 20 and 40.  Will be checking the rules so I comply.  Usually run portable from a van camper when on the road.

I also forgot a key component. My charger for the Yaesu 817nd PA 48 B. I am on a 10 week trip, won’t return home until mid sept. I hoped to operate from Mt Battie in Camden ME and from Prince Edward Island in Canada. Is there anyone in the Camden ME area that would sell me one of these chargers or the AA battery holder for said radio. I will be in Camden ME until Aug 8.

I would like to try a 2-3 day APE towards the end of the month, but have 2 weddings to attend.. so hope to work something in between.  It's very iffy right now.  It would have to be a QRP effort, all I have for portable right now is a KX2.

August 365/366

Rick - N7WE

It is almost August!  This month we have two members who will possibly hit 365/366 milestones.

First up will be F8BFU – Thierry of La Ville Au Bas, France – who has been on quite a run of consecutive days.  He can possible complete his 365 on 8/2/2018.  That would make him the first French station to complete 365!  But Thierry will have to wait until 2/29/2020 to complete his 366.  That Leap Day only comes around once every  4 years!

Next up will be KD8JSP – John of Detroit, MI.  His magic day for his 366 will be August 16th.  He has been waiting for that day since completing his 365 on July 17th.

Good luck and good propagation to Thierry and John.  If you see them calling, be sure to work them!

Update to Ubuntu Bionic

N9JCA Chris Matthews <n9jca.chris@...>

The other day I made a fresh Install of Ubuntu Bionic LTS 18.4

There are a couple of differences from Xenial to Bionic in Ubuntu LTS

1) If you Left Click on the Sound Speaker you will find a Tab for Settings

you will need to click here and change your Input /Output

to the "Built-in Audio" or your Internal Speakers won't work properly

2) You may find that you don't have any check (tick) Marks in Fldigi

i.e. Waterfall  Display; Rig settings Audio Settings etc

The solution is to go to the UI Tab Click on General Tab you will see

UI Scheme with gtk+  CHANGE that to read Base Save and Close

Next time you open Fldigi you should be able to see your Check (tick) Marks

Hope this helps
