W7PFB Completes 366!

Rick - N7WE

I am pleased to announce that Paul – W7PFB – out in the rain forest in Carnation, Washington just now completed his 366!  This is a monumental achievement of which he can be justly proud!  He becomes only the 33rd of our 2644 members to complete this endorsement.

For our newer members who may not be familiar with the 366 Endorsement, here are the details.  The endorsement began January 1, 2016 and requires that you complete one PSK31 QSO every day.  Days do not have to be consecutive and you can take as long as needed to complete the endorsement.  Progress towards the 365 level is marked by  endorsements (stickers!) at 90 days, 180 days, 270 days, 360 days, and 365 days.  The ultimate level, 366, requires that you complete a PSK31 QSO on Leap Day February 29th – only doable once every 4 years!

Congratulations Paul, your endorsement sticker will be in the next mailing.  Display it proudly!  Give a big sigh of relief….it’s done and…YOU DID IT!  So fellow members, please join me in congratulating Paul.

Rick – N7WE

Condx not looking all that swell right now (although I just got Manny TG9AHM from Guatemala), so if you all would like to take a look for me just after we tick over into 7/13/2018 zulu time, I would appreciate a little boost. I’m excited to get this thing done! I will probably start on 20m.
Can’t promise I’ll get through, but I’ll be looking on 20m

LIMITED TIME SPECIAL AWARD!

Rick - N7WE

As an incentive to get more PSK31 activity on the bands, the 070 Club is offering a Special Certificate (in addition to the standard endorsement sticker) for those members who complete the Ragchewers 3/30 Endorsement between July 16, 2018 and August 16, 2018.

The rules for Ragchewers 3/30 Endorsement are simple.  Work 3 separate 30 minute or longer PSK31 QSOs, any band, any station.  The other station does not have to be a 070 member!  Upload your complete log as usual to the Awards Progress Checker.  Be sure it includes fields for “time on” and “time off”.  In order to qualify for this Special Certificate, your log must be uploaded not later than August 20, 2018.

To clarify – this certificate is for COMPLETING the endorsement during the specified time.  If you already have partial credit towards it, those count!  If you have earned the endorsement prior to July 16, or you complete the endorsement after August 16th, you are not eligible for the Special Certificate.

Get on the Air! - Call “CQ CQ Ragchew”

Announce it here when you complete!

Who will be first?

Suggestion - A spiel and and invitation to join 070 Club makes a great piece for a rag chew!

Gr8 news. Gud to hear of the Pontoon Portable's return again this season.
Any chance you could consider a change to the award system from # of bands to total miles.
Prop has not been kind and a single contact is about all I can manage the past few years.
GL with the move.

Unfortunately my plans this year fell through and I won't be going up to /VE3-land this August. I recently moved into a new house so I've been busy with lots of landscaping work.

I'll be looking out for all the APEs this year, though - and definitely looking forward to seeing W9SMR and KC9UR on the air again!

I'll make sure the vacation plans work out in 2019! I had a ton of fun with my APE activation last year.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT!

Rick - N7WE

The 2018 August PSK31 Expedition (APE) event is fast approaching and this year will be a special tribute

In Memory of Larry Brown - WB5CXC-  SK 12/01/2017

Larry was Member #1616, our APE Coordinator, and a member of “The TEXAS Boys” annual APE Expedition.  This year we will honor Larry’s commitment to 070 Club, his dedicated service as APE Coordinator, and his friendship.  RIP Larry.  You are missed!

In order to get timely notice up on the website, we need your dates and details ASAP!  Details of what is needed and where to send it (email address in #4 under 070 Club Requirements) can be found here.  REQUIREMENTS  Also have a look at last years listings here  2017 Planned APEs. That is very helpful as to what we needed.  Even if your plans aren’t firm, please send in your proposed activity.  You can always update or change your plans as they firm up!

Will “The TEXAS Boys” Skip, Ken, and Charles be operational again this year from Lake Sam Rayburn?  Will there be a Pontoon Portable from Round Lake, Indiana by Bob KC9UR and Stan W9SMR?  Is Matt, W5MMW/VE going to be in Canada again this August?  Last year Dave - KB3RAN was a Maritime Mobile while on a Windjammer cruise.  Going again this year Dave?  If so, we’re all jealous!

Will we have APEs from Europe this year?  It has been a few years since Calvi IK1AMC put Italy in the mix!  Maybe some of our members in the UK will go APE this year?  And who is planning their first ever APE this year?  There are a lot of great portable sites out there and you only have to get 20 miles from your home QTH.  Doesn’t have to be a week-long trip.  All you need is 20 QSOs to qualify your APE.  And if the propagation genies are with us, that can be done very quickly.

Whatever your plans – or just dreams – Bryon - W7RIV – our new APE Coordinator needs to hear from you ASAP.  PLEASE!

APE APE APE - Lets GO APE!

W7RIV

Folks we have had too much hype and distractions going on! Lets talk about something we can all go APE about!

I've had a few inquiries and people starting their plans. Lets have some discussion. What are your plans for APE?

If you don't know what APE is, it stands for August PSK Expedition. You go out, work away from your home station and make 20 contacts! We then like to put up a report of where you went, along with some pictures, and what you learned.

I've been part of my own APE. I know others in the club go out together, even on a pontoon boat! I would love to do that. Even if you cannot make it out helping make contacts during the day/time is critical to the success of this as well.

If you have questions, or need help figuring out how to got portable/mobile. Let myself or the group know. We can help you out.

Thanks,
Bryon Densley, W7RIV
APE Coordinator

Rick,

I was pleased to make contact with a few friends that I had not seen in a while and who were good enough to stay up late for us left-coasters.

It was a nice surprise that as the band momentarily lengthened, I was able to get MI, MS, and NC in the log.  I hope everyone had fun.

Hi Rick,

Being further North the TStorms missed me for a change.  It was nice to see all of the activity.  I kept looking on the lower 40mtr frequencies but did not see anything but RTTY.   Made 26 contacts in the 4 hours I worked the contest.  No real good DX, but lots of East coast and Midwest stations.
