Egad! Flaming traps! I discovered this late in the operating session, so only worked a couple times with the 80M beam tuned. My Hustler 6BTV vertical is well tuned for 80M PSK, so I have always used that with some success. I theorized in the moment that the "tunability" of the beam on 80M might be due to the long 40M add-on aluminum on my setup, but I have no need to push my luck, heh. No need here for flaming traps. Thanks for the heads-up, Jerry.

Probably wouldn't recommend driving the TA-53 on 80m with a 100 watts or a KW. You might experience what a friend here in Marengo had with his TA-33 - flaming traps  The only YL I saw was Mary. If there were others I missed them. Maybe some of you guys will have to put wigs in 2019 !  Jerry n9avy

Another fun sprint completed. Some comments from this QTH.
Need to notify XYL well in advance of participation plans. Time was a factor in my operation, only had a couple of hours or so due to family committments. (And, could not attempt to defer them, because they were plans of "she who must be obeyed". Cannot ever seem to get a contact with N5SLY who is only about 30 miles from me, you would think we could work groundwave on 80 and 40. Saw others working him, but never saw him at all. The short period of time I had on 80 was great. Band was not noisy here, and could have worked later than I did on this band. Forty was never that great, had some good contacts, but the band was up and down here. Could not get my wire to properly load on 160. Tried early in the day and it got down to 1.9 SWR, but could not get that low when tried to use it. Was glad to see Barry, and Milt on the bands, but never did see Paula. Also was great to work our two newest members AC0A, and K3IRV (told Irv that if I approved his application yesterday, he had to work me last evening)! These sprints should show everyone that the bands are not DEAD! If as many members get on the air as there were last night, then operations would be capable.
