Just a reminder, for all of my mobile operations I am using KC3EF/M for LOTW.  Just to make sure all who worked me get QSL for the operation.

Worked N7WE, N9AVY, AK4MK, and several others in DM23.  Band was up and down, but managed to get everyone who tried to work me.  Also, started having problems with the antenna.  Apparently the cable between the tuner and the antenna has an open shield, and since I don’t have the required tools it won’t be fixed until I return to FL.

Will be operating as KC3EF/P from EL28 starting on Friday the 13th and ending Thursday 19th.  Will be in the evenings, since we will be doing tourist stuff during the day.  Will try any mode that is needed, just let me know.

Delos...Good to hear from you Old Timer! It's been a while...

I also have an excel spreadsheet that I made & use, but, primarily, I use the mixw built in log, plus the "icon.cfg" file and the "icons" folder within mixw to tell me if I need them or if I've worked them before.

Back in the day, that excel spreadsheet is what I used to submit, for LONP, to Charlie, K8IJ. Not necessary anymore with David's great log checker.

A few months ago I made a little list of needed grids using Excel and keep next to radio so when I work a grid I can quickly see if I need it.  It has been very helpful/  Last night I compared it to the checker  and found that a few had been worked .   Crossed them off list, but found a couple that were missing and not worked.

Wonder if anyone working on grids does same ???    Still have lots of grids to work and it may be years before I finish , if ever.

No danger of wardrobe malfunction!.  Just a pair of shorts, t-shirt, moccasins, but a big selection of baseball caps. It is Florida and I can't remember when I had hair on my head.  The Meatloaf experience reminds me of a similar one we had many years ago....except it was the Everly Brothers.  Couldn't find the tune.  When they sang "Wake Up Little Susie" the crowd went to sleep!  Speaking of which, I think I forgot to go to bed!  Good night all.

I just hope Rick doesn’t have a wardrobe malfunction!

Speaking of musicians that should give it up, I was listening to a live Meatloaf concert a few months ago. That guy used to have the most incredible voice, but he can't carry a tune in a basket anymore - and the audience still loved him. I'll try to remember him the way he was.

Back to our regularly scheduled program!

I have a spreadsheet and also a map. But I am NOT persuing the ARRL Grid thing. I'll stick with 070 and like Jerry, it is going to take a while! While I'm talking about Jerry... he mentioned the new "worked from" provision for grids (Thank you 070!) and that my grid count should go up. They will, but not as much as one might think. Of the 51 grids I activated, only 16 were grids that I had not worked from the home QTH. Sure would like to do that trip again and hit some different grids, but not to be....it was The Farewell Tour.

When I started chasing grids did the same, but wasn't satisfied with size; so I took it to copy place and had it enlarged to twice the size in B&W.  When I worked a new grid I just color it it with a pencil (your choice of color).
Chart fits on back of shack door.  I abandoned it for the chart because my station is in cabinet with doors and the Excel sheet is taped to door for quick reference .

This afternoon I saw a station on 40m who was in DM97, but he faded qiuckly and was gone in a minute. Rats !

Jerry,

I made a chart like that but I also have a copy of the ARRL Grid Locator for North America map.  It is printed in landscape format on regular 8 1/2 by 11 paper.  What I do is I put a red dot in the square of every grid that shows worked in the 070 Checker.  I occasionally will pull up the info on the checker and be sure my chart agrees with the grids approved by the checker.  At a quick glance, I can see if I have that grid.  I have most of the grids in the eastern US but a lot of spaces left in the west.  I also put an X in the squares that the 070 awards do not use.

Re: Grids

Think a lot of good people left ARRL.   Dave Patton,  NN1N, who came up with the original LoTW idea, Centennial Event, and helped streamline the QSL Bureau, has left ARRL and is now back in Illinois working at Western IL University.  Other have left as well, but ARRL are probably not aware yet.

My little Excel sheet has 2 columns, one for grid and one for state.  My computer skills aren't up to those of others; so I had to separate the long column and a cut & paste (with real glue stick & scissors).., to get it to fit one one 8 1/2 x 11 " sheet and copied it on printer.  If the sheet get worn/messy I can go back to Excel and edit it to remove grids worked and start the process again.

It works for me and it's something to do when bands are dead.  Been a fan of Excel and its Open Office equivalent for years.

Maybe someday someone will come up with software to do the job, but for now I wouldn't look to ARRL for it.
