Well Mike as I see it you had two choices.
You could sit in front of the radio, get DX and be happy or...
you could accompany your XYL shopping and make her happy.

WARNING:  One of these choices could have lasting effects and additionally subtract from future operating opportunities.

Apparently you chose wisely and drank from the correct cup.  HNY!

Perhaps some went to FT-8 thing there was more DX activity, but there are not as many DX stations as they may have thought. There was some talk I heard about running FT-8 on DXpeditions, but I think it may have been just that.
Although FT-8 does lend itself well for "599 QSL" contacts.

Still prefer PSK31 for general contacts and getting to know other hams.  Haven't been on SSB for a long time and don't miss it. Read something the other day about phone bands being a big mess with all the idiots.  Guess SSB was always like that from my 40 years experience.

Welcome to the "new and  improved " ham radio -   NOT !

Randy,

I found that the prop isn't the only thing working against PSK31 contacts.  I checked the statistics on PSK Reporter and found that in any given 2 hour period there averages about 1300 - 1500 PSK contacts being made as compared to an average of 838,000 FT8 contacts.
PSK31 seems to be a small percentage of the total activity.  Guess many flew the coop.  I know that I have seen lots of FT8 on both ends of 20m and also at the high end of 40m.

Here's hoping the prodigals return home in 2018.

Suffixea

Jerry N9AVY

Just found TYA11  from Benin ...   TX9  from Chesterfield Is, ...   a TX5 which doesn't seem to have a country assigned to it so may have been a busted call ....   none of these have a suffixe; so there are instances of no suffixes out there.
Guess for out purposes they are all non-players in suffix games.

Re: Need a 'U' for my Spell All South American Countries Endorsement

Jerry N9AVY

JY1 was Jordan's King Hussein and he;s been dead many years so that's a dead issue.  An " /4" or any other number followed a a numeral is NOT a suffix, merely an identifier which follower a suffix.

Have never seen LU#A with a single digit but there has probably been one.  Have work a gaggle of LU station with prefixes from LU1  through 9  going back to 1979 amd there was an LU4E complete call. I seem to recall some DX Calls that had no suffix, but with some 27,000 QSO's to dig through in logs that would be difficult to find.

So then JY1 and VB150 just don't count. They're rare callsigns anyway. The
way I read it is there ARE callsigns like LU#A were the "A" is the
suffix!! Besides maybe special event callsigns I have never seen a
callsign end with a number EXCEPT something like KC2GIK/4 where there "/4"
doesn't count

Y'all have collectively ciphered it correctly - JY1 or VB7150 simply wouldn't couldn't towards Work The World or Erin Go Braugh credits.

The WTW rules should say the first letter after the number in the call, I suppose, and that's something that I'll look into changing.

Happy New Year, y'all!

Yes, it probably could (and should) be more carefully worded in all of
the various places where it's used, but I think the club's intent to be
consistent is clear.

P.S. The "in general" in the rules is to allow for some strange cases.
JY1 and VB7150 are examples where this rule fails.

I've always Interpreted the suffix as the first letter after the
numeral. Thus, N9AVY will only count as an "A" . Of course with a call
like KZ3T there is only one choice of a suffix. :-)

Maybe thus needs to be better defined in rules, but I guess there will
always be those who look for shortcuts. (no offense)

Well, that sucks!!! When I see use the suffix of a call , that usually
means any letter in the suffix but I do see where it states ‘In
general’ — But the suffix means ‘The ending’ So, WA3RLJ the
suffix is ‘RLJ’ —
In other organizations I’m in the suffix is ‘any’ letter after the
number!!!

I need one 'U' callsign to complete my SASAC.

In my log, I have AA9UF, CG9UN, K6UAS, KA8UNI, KC9UR, KJ6UF, N2UJN, W6U.

I'm off work until 2 January and I'd love to finish this one up. Any
'U's
who are reading this and can work a sked, please let me know. 20 and 40
meters are best for me, but I can do 10 - 160.

Still looking for DM53 but way off route. Maybe we can work on that for next year.
Enjoy the travels.

Hi Barry,

Tnx for your kind comments.  It is fun to be on the other side of a effort instead of sitting at the home station trying to work one.  My xyl is great as a wife of a ham operator.  She understands the grid chase and wanted to make sure everyone had a chance to work me in any of the rarer grids.

We are continuing across I40 thru AZ and then up US92 to Las Vegas.  If anyone needs any of the AZ grids let me know.
