Just found TYA11  from Benin ...   TX9  from Chesterfield Is, ...   a TX5 which doesn't seem to have a country assigned to it so may have been a busted call ....   none of these have a suffixe; so there are instances of no suffixes out there.
Guess for out purposes they are all non-players in suffix games.

JY1 was Jordan's King Hussein and he;s been dead many years so that's a dead issue.  An " /4" or any other number followed a a numeral is NOT a suffix, merely an identifier which follower a suffix.

Have never seen LU#A with a single digit but there has probably been one.  Have work a gaggle of LU station with prefixes from LU1  through 9  going back to 1979 amd there was an LU4E complete call. I seem to recall some DX Calls that had no suffix, but with some 27,000 QSO's to dig through in logs that would be difficult to find.

So then JY1 and VB150 just don't count. They're rare callsigns anyway. The
way I read it is there ARE callsigns like LU#A were the "A" is the
suffix!! Besides maybe special event callsigns I have never seen a
callsign end with a number EXCEPT something like KC2GIK/4 where there "/4"
doesn't count

Y'all have collectively ciphered it correctly - JY1 or VB7150 simply wouldn't couldn't towards Work The World or Erin Go Braugh credits.

The WTW rules should say the first letter after the number in the call, I suppose, and that's something that I'll look into changing.

Happy New Year, y'all!

Yes, it probably could (and should) be more carefully worded in all of

P.S. The "in general" in the rules is to allow for some strange cases.
JY1 and VB7150 are examples where this rule fails.

I've always Interpreted the suffix as the first letter after the

like KZ3T there is only one choice of a suffix. :-)

Maybe thus needs to be better defined in rules, but I guess there will

I need one 'U' callsign to complete my SASAC.

In my log, I have AA9UF, CG9UN, K6UAS, KA8UNI, KC9UR, KJ6UF, N2UJN, W6U.

I'm off work until 2 January and I'd love to finish this one up. Any

meters are best for me, but I can do 10 - 160.

Well , 10-10 does jump out at me.  but all is moot at this time.    I read the rules as I stated earlier, however, I didn’t really read the rules.      It’s like you see something and you have that in your mind as to what it is and really don’t comprehend the rest of what you are supposed to be reading even though you read it!!!

Not trying to look for any shortcuts.  Just trying to be a little logical .

The meaning of ‘suffix’ is:

a letter or a group of letters added to the end of a word, etc. or append, especially as a suffix — that definition tells me it is all the letters after the number in a call sign.

When someone on the air asks you for your suffix, do you just give them the ‘A’  or do you give them
‘AVY’   -  With my old call I can remember and I have still seen people ask for the suffix of their call and they give them all the letters following the number.

Today's summary of Grid activity.

Started in DM85 and worked a couple of stations, but no one looking for grids.  Did not see many traces on at all. BSeem to be having trouble will low power output.  Stopped at the NM welcome station and tightened all of the connectors in the feed line and that seemed to take care of the problem.

Also propagation seemed to be more to the West from my location in TX/NM than to the East.

Worked Barry, VB7150 when at DM75 and then at DM74.  Worked Rick, N7WE at DM75 and just missed him in DM74.  This was an interesting grid, as I40 just skims the top of it for about 20-30 miles.  Stopped for a few minutes at a rest stop to try and get some additional contacts, but not much action.  Several stations answered my CQ, but then did not come back for QSO.  Propagation seemed to be varying.  It did seem to start favoring East/West direction.
Worked stations in WV, FL, GA, AZ, BC, CA, OR, & WA so not to bad for 50 watts to a hamstick mounted on the side of the mini-van.  The xyl did the driving and suggested stopping at the rest area in DM74 to try to give more opportunity for contacts.

Again the major problem was trying to type on bumpy roads, the keyboard on my Asus laptop seems to be somewhat sensitive.  Heading for a couple of days in Las Vegas (looking for real wildlife, not the kind on the strip) and then on to San Jose for a week.  Will be back on the road to Southren CA around Salton Sea and then on to TX coast.

The rule fails in that there is no alphabetical suffix for either of those calls. JY1 did not even have a suffix. I think Barry says that 150 is the suffix, and that's a number.

I'm not sure there's a reasonable, easy-to-implement rule to cover these calls, especially if it had to be coded into the awards checker. We could say that if there was no suffix, then it's a wild card, but that would be extremely difficult to code in the checker, as it would involve creating a new field to be evaluated. We could also say that if the suffix was a number, then it's the first letter of the number spelled out. But would Barry's VB7150 be an O (for one hundred fifty) or a C (for cent cinquante)? Would we have to spell the number in the country's official language? Suppose that language doesn't use the alphabet that the award is set up for (English)?

When I wrote that email, I struggled to come up with additional examples (beyond those two) and I couldn't come up with any. Frankly, I think they're rare enough that the current implementation (that if there are no letters in the suffix, then they don't count) isn't onerous.

Subject: Re: [070Club] Need a 'U' for my Spell All South American Countries Endorsement

There have been a number of 070 endorsements (and contests) based on "suffix", and they have always been defined and/or interpreted as the first letter after the last number in the callsign. In addition to BINGO and WOTMC (word of the month), there was MONA and HER CAT (2003, 070's first use of a suffix-based endorsement), WTW (ongoing), and the ERIN GO BRAGH bonus points in the St Patty's day contest.

Yes, it probably could (and should) be more carefully worded in all of the various places where it's used, but I think the club's intent to be consistent is clear.

P.S. The "in general" in the rules is to allow for some strange cases. JY1 and VB7150 are examples where this rule fails.

Steve,

How does the rule work for calls like JY1 or VB7150. (Or does it not work?)

I guess JY1(who I had the privilege of working several times) is moot, but VB7510 is pretty common these days!
