[070] transfer to groups.io

Matthew King - KK4CPS <kk4cps@...>

As many/most of you have probably figured out by now, we have transferred the "070" group from Yahoo Groups to groups.io.

This was done for a host of reasons, and I think we'll be happier here.

Please log in to groups.io with whatever email address your Yahoo Groups posts were sent to and have a look around.

We will, in time, begin to utilize more of the features of the new user group host, but one we should begin using now is hashtags.  That's those cute little #thingies you see at the end of messages, used to describe what's found in the message.  You'll be able to mute conversations based on hashtags, or by thread, and the hashtags will greatly enhance our search capabilities moving forward.

The 070_Contest group has NOT been moved yet. I am still trying to decide what avenue to take with it, i.e. a separate group or a subgroup of the main group. I think the subgroup route makes the most sense at this point, but I'm glad to hear other thoughts on the matter.

Welcome to our new user group home, 070 Club Members! :-)

Nope.  Just adjust mic gain while watching ALC level ... ALC shows action and I back off on mic gain.

The M-8 uses the computer sound card and once the sliders are set, there's no need to change them.

However, I might add that the FT-1000MP has a tendency to creep up in power while running for extended periods. usually have it set around 40 watts, but it may creep up to 50 or 60 watts; so I almost always keep one eye on ALC meter.  Should probably investigate this problem, but I've been living with it for years and hasn't really been more than an occasional annoyance.

Had a Signalink hooked up to my TS-850, but didn't like the way the 2 worked together.  Acquired a TS-570 a while back, but haven't done anything with it. Was owned by a heavy smoker and has been sitting in garage for a couple months in big plastic bag with dryer sheets to get rid of smokey smell.

Are the Rigblaster units any better in this respect?

Congrats Matt!!  Great dedication, for sure.

I am close behind you.

Rick, N7WE noted after I made the 365+1 award last month that I needed only 8 "N" and 6 "I" calls for WTW.

Based on his challenge, I started to pay attention.

As of last nite I had my 8 "N" calls and needed just ONE more "I" call.

Any "I" call volunteers who have not worked W9SMR yet?

This is such a wonderful hobby!!

Please join me in congratulating Matt - AK4MK - who yesterday completed his Work The World Award Series.  This is a monumental achievement of 9 seperate, ordered awards requiring a total of 2246 QSOs and years to achieve.  Matt completed the first level of this endorsement on Dec. 6, 2013.  He becomes only the 32nd person to complete the entire series since it was introduced July 1, 2012.

Well done Matt!

Re: 1st Unofficial Official Grid Leaderboard ?

Don Bolstad K9DEB

AClog and Grids is working fine for me.  Whatever the grid the sender sends in his text is populated in FlDigi. That populates ACLog.

If he/she says they are portable/mobile in a non QTH location, I’ll verify that the grid given is different from their QRZ grid.  A few extra steps, but worth it as sometimes those p/m grids are rare.

Re: 1st Unofficial Official Grid Leaderboard ?

Jerry N9AVY

Also, there could be a possibility that the station has entered the wrong grid on his QRZ page or has moved without updating QRZ page and his grid would be wrong.  I try to always copy the grid from sent text.

I believe that the grid info only appears on QRZ pages and not anywhere else, but I could be wrong.  The KC5 was operating from various grids in NM and wasn't signing portable nor mobile as I recall.

Just don't want to see anyone cheat themselves out of a grid.  Of course, a lot of stations don't send their grids.  That's a different problem.

I only copied the info for Leader board from what was on checker and I had gone back to May 2016.  If people don't submit logs more than once a year, the data won't be 100% accurate.  Nothing I can do about that.

Nope, I did not mess up.  The grids are entered automatically.   You did not say anything about portable/mobile operations.  Of course, anyone working portable/mobile, etc we would have to change manually but those are far and few between, at least for me anyway.
