Re: Is Grid FM28 a hard one to get?
Yes, I know that and I have one "wet" grid near Heard Is,. Jerry

They may not count for DXCC but they still count for certain grid awards.
In fact, at least one award program (www.gapawards.com) has a special category for "wet" grids that don't contain any land.

P.S. For those that don't recognize GAPA, it's the renamed awards that were formerly known as TARA's grid and prefix awards (which actually, even longer ago, started out as PODXS and 070 awards).

Re: Thanks Barry
Big Congrats to Jim K5SP. That was the last QSO he needed for 366! Fine job.
And Barry VB7150 - you are a trooper up there in your piece of Paradise. If I'm not mistaken you just need tomorrow and then Oct. 18. 366 is doable! It just takes determination, perserverance, and only a little bit of luck. Rick - N7WE 070 - #1602

Thanks Barry, VB7150, we struggled but got the contact completed. Your signal was very strong at first, but then really faded and when we closed you were down in the mud.
Thanks again Jim, K5SP

I agree about unpopulated grids. Also need to factor in the Black Holes of which there appear to be a few. Here in NV many of the grids have more bighorn sheep and coyotes then people so they're tough to get. I just wondered if FM28 was in an area that was not well populated (or only accessible at low tide). Most of the fun of ham radio for me is "casting out the CQ line" and seeing what you can catch.

Re: Is Grid FM28 a hard one to get?
Some grids are rarer than others, but it depends on which part of U.S. you live in as well propagation/band conditions. For us in the Midwest East coast grids are pretty easy, but stuff in Western half is much more difficult. Of course, working those grids all depends on when they are on the air and if your schedule meets that of the grid you're seeking. Pretty much a crap shot. One rare one for me is EM91 is GA, I have a friend who lives on Jekyl Is. (GA) and I've asked him to get on the air so I can get his grid, but he's retired and seems to busy to get on the air, hi !, hi ! Also, have another local ham who summers in EN65, but he doesn't operate PSK31. Many grids have little or no psk31 activity; so we have to rely on good people like N7WE & W7RIV among others to activate rare grids. So, it's mostly a case of catch as catch can. Jerry n9avy

I think the conservation of computing resources can be taken too far. Especially given how cheap RAM, processing power and storage has become. As a user, I really don’t care how spartan the code is as long as it works. Saving a few milliseconds isn’t on my radar. Another country heard from, 73 de Eric, KG6MZS
