Re: Is Grid FM28 a hard one to get?
Yup, kinda figured that many grids out West have more critters than people. Some are probably government land which is probably posted "no trespassing" (Area 51). Some is also in mountains or deserts which often has little or no population. Guess I'm like you in that I call CQ and am always surprised at whoever answers... just like fishing ! When I work someone for the second time, it's like meeting up with an old friend. Jerry n9avy

Here in NV many of the grids have more bighorn sheep and coyotes then people so they're tough to get. I just wondered if FM28 was in an area that was not well populated (or only accessible at low tide). Most of the fun of ham radio for me is "casting out the CQ line" and seeing what you can catch.

Re: Is Grid FM28 a hard one to get?
Some grids are rarer than others, but it depends on which part of U.S. you live in as well propagation/band conditions. For us in the Midwest East coast grids are pretty easy, but stuff in Western half is much more difficult. Of course, working those grids all depends on when they are on the air and if your schedule meets that of the grid you're seeking. Pretty much a crap shot. One rare one for me is EM91 is GA, I have a friend who lives on Jekyl Is. (GA) and I've asked him to get on the air so I can get his grid, but he's retired and seems to busy to get on the air, hi !, hi ! Also, have another local ham who summers in EN65, but he doesn't operate PSK31. Many grids have little or no psk31 activity; so we have to rely on good people like N7WE & W7RIV among others to activate rare grids. So, it's mostly a case of catch as catch can. Jerry n9avy

Are either of you still on from Delaware in the evenings or did I miss the window? I've been hunting a 40m DE contact for months now.

I think the conservation of computing resources can be taken too far. Especially given how cheap RAM, processing power and storage has become. As a user, I really don’t care how spartan the code is as long as it works. Saving a few milliseconds isn’t on my radar. Another country heard from, 73 de Eric, KG6MZS

Re: PSK31 Software
I use DM780 for one reason and one reason only. I am visually impaired and the HRD rig controls are great I can do everything on my 42 inch LCD TV/Monitor that I have hooked up to my laptop. I prefer FLDigi, but Omnirig is terrible and just does not give me the control on the screen that makes it useful for those of us with vision problems. HRD is a resource hog especially DM780. I was a hardware tech before I lost 85% of my vision and every hardware tech hates programs that take more resources than necessary to do a job. FLdigi on Win 10 uses about 3% on my system, DM780 doing the same job uses 15%. That is why hard ware guys absolutely loath JAVA, it is a pig but can be tamed if not for lazy programming. If I could go back to Log4OM and FLdigi using my ICOM RSBA-1 software to control the rig I would dump this HRD so fast it wouldn't know what happened. 73 de Chris NO7E no7e@... no7e@... Brian, K9WIS I would like to see what they use. Any input you have would be appreciated. I have access to a field out back from me. I've just not taken the time to put any wires up at home. I also would like a portable one to use for outings. Bryon, W7RIV

how much land do you have...Our FD group sets out beverages for 40 and 80 meters to pull in those weak signals at night...but we still xmit on the dipoles up in the trees. they are long(multiple wavelengths, I think) but only sit a few feet above ground, a termination resistor at one end makes them directional, some matching needs to be done(guess I'll have to check the antenna handbook).
