Re: KC3EF Portable Operation in Delaware
Too bad you can't announce this to a greater audience. Seems like I see a lot of stations calling "CQ Delaware" looking to get it for their WAS. Have fun and will look for you when I'm not at work. 73, Jerry N9AVY #454

Try the latest version of PSK Express and if it crashes, send me
the crash stack trace. If it has been a while since you have
used that, then delete the folder c:\ProgramData\pskexpress and
C:\Users\%USER%\AppData\Roaming\PSKExpress\pskexpress.xml if that
file exists. before installing the full install. Jeff K. Steinkamp (N7YG) Tucson, AZ Scud Missile Coordinates N32.2319 W110.8477 On 7/30/2017 11:48, 'Mike Besemer'

Actually Steve… I think (working from memory – which is always dangerous) it will run, but it crashes pretty often when the multi RX window is open. I played with it for a while and gave up.
Someone else mentioned Airlink Express. I was using that for a while but moved on… can’t remember why. (I think I see a theme here – need to take notes!) Regardless, I’m going to give it a try again today.
PSK Express is also installed and I tried it for a while, but it started crashing. Maybe I’ll try to uninstall/reinstall.

My condolences, but I'm surprised. I've managed to keep my copy of DP 2.0 running from Win95 through XP and Win7 up into Win8. Reaffirms my decision to avoid the Win10 upgrade last year.

Mike, One very simple program that has very nice and clean GUI like digipan is Airlink Express. Very easy to set up and use. Many will vote for FLDigi but for me it was more difficult to get going and also no true FSK. My personal preference is MixW but it is not free. I also do not like HRD at all. Visit DX Zone, it lists probably 20 programs for PSK31, a lot to choose from.

I hesitate to ask because I don’t want to start a ‘Ford vs. Chevy’ discussion… but I’m going to ask anyway.
After being off the air for a few years, I’m back on and having fun. I had always used Digipan before, but it refuses to run on my Windows 10 machine. I’ve downloaded a bunch of different software for a test drive, and frankly, I miss the look and simplicity of Digipan!
My favorite features were the ability to decode multiple streams and the automatic recognition of a ‘CQ’ on the waterfall.
What’s your favorite software that has these features – and why is it your favorite? FWIW, I do NOT like HRD/DM780, and I’m NOT going to change my computer or OS. I’m a guy who lives in front of a computer 10 hours a day 5 days a week, so I just want software that WORKS.

Portable Logging - Was Re: DM49 Coming on the air!
Great advice from Steve. Here are a couple of additional suggestions from my portable trip last year.
---In 070@..., <melachri@...> wrote : 4. It gets more complicated to use electronic QSL systems, and the way they work is different from system to system. 4a. For LoTW, you use your regular W7RIV certificate since that's the callsign you used. But you have to create a new station location, associate that location with the W7RIV callsign certificate, and sign the cards with that combination. Secure an additional TSQL certificate for your call with the /P - if you don’t have one. If you don’t have one, getting the additional one is easy. You just request one through TQSL. Once you have the new certificate installed, the trick is to create a new station location for each different location you operate from with the /P account, not your primary call.
When you upload log entries, simply use the certificate for the /P call and select your station location. 4b. For eQSL, you need to establish a new account for the new location. Accounts are defined by callsign and a contiguous time period, so this new account is defined by W7RIV and your hours of operation. But here's where it gets messy--it means you have to end your current W7RIV account at a time just before you went portable, and create a new account for home operation that starts after you got back. If you set up a new account for the /P call, you can leave the time frame on your primary call in place. It will let you have a primary account and a /P account with overlapping time periods. What you can't do is have overlapping time periods within the account. For the /P call account, you do have to set up a start/stop time specific slot for each location and give each slot a different "QTH Nickname". Again I name by state abbreviation and a number i.e - FL-2, FL-3. But different from LoTW you can't add more operations at a later date to the same "QTH Nickname". I end up with FL-2a etc. It sounds harder than it is. It is easier to create the account once the portable operation is complete and you know the definite end time. To set up the new account, log on to eQSL and go to My Accounts (the Globe icon on the first screen). Cursor down to the bottom of the page and you'll see the Register A New Attached Account block. Fill in the info making sure to not overlap the start time with the end time of a previous /P account. You can modify the end time of a previous account if you get the overlap message. But you have to go back to the My Profile page (home screen and the Paper/Pencil Icon), modify the end time, and then return to the Register A new Attached Account block and start all over. Again, it sounds much harder than it is. Hope this helps. And if you have questions feel free to email me off list. My email address is good on QRZ.com Rick - N7WE 070 - #1602

Steve VA3FLF/KM4FLF
For QRZ.com you can create a new log. In his case it would have been easier to create a log as operating as a /P. He could however create a new log with the date/times of his activation. When you set up a new log you can put in a new grid location. Steve #2301 Sent from my iPhone

Re: DM49 Coming on the air!

Dxlab/dxkeeper has nice complete functionality for this, where you can create different QTH profiles (call, grid, county, qsl address, etc) and then assign qth profile to QSOs. So everything is in a single log. Supports corresponding lotw/eqsl profiles, and paper qsling, and the award reporting (e.g. which profiles to count for dxcc, was, etc). This type of scenario isnt just for trips.. Same for a move where home qth changes. Dont have link handy at moment but there's a specific section in the docs. 73 -david KJ4IZW

There really is no absolute right or wrong in this, but some options make it more complicated depending on how you want to QSL. I've posted some of this to the reflector in the past, but here's a quick summary.
1. First of all, you can legally operate as W7RIV. FCC does not require you to use a portable identifier--it's your choice.
2. Second, you operated as W7RIV. That means that you have to QSL as W7RIV. You can't change the callsign you operated under after the fact. But you do have to keep your log entries separate--don't just mix them up with your regular log entries as you want to QSL them from DM49, not your home QTH.
3. If you only want to QSL on paper, it's easy. Just make sure you use "different" QSL cards for this activation. That doesn't mean you have to print new ones--you can hand-write on paper cards your actual location (town, grid, etc). But please make sure the cards indicate where the station really was.
4c. I'm not sure what to do about QRZ, HRD, or any other electronic system as I don't use them.
5. Finally, if your log program automatically uploads to any electronic system, do NOT let it do that with these QSOs. That is the equivalent of sending paper QSLs from your home QTH. The right way to partition the QSOs depends on the logging program--some may let you set station location by QSO, others may make you create separate files, etc.

2017 APE
Larry
Next weekend starts APE. Marty KJ4LQX will kick off this year’s APE from Jacksonville, FL. Check the web site for a list of current 2017 APEs.
For you new members APE stands for August PSK Expedition. It is an event of the PODXS 070 club. It is where you set up portable operations and make contacts using PSK, it is kind of like a PSK Field Day. We have had APEs from a pontoon boat, and operating from the trunk of your car in a European park. Check the web site for details requirements and look at some of the past APEs in the Tall Tales section. We still plenty of openings so send in your registration now.
