Hey Chris, There are no dumb questions only good answers, especially in this group. I have never come across a bunch of more helpful and knowledgeable folks. This is one of the real strengths of the group. No matter what the subject there always seems to be someone that has the answer. Many times you get several responses which seem to clear things up nicely. Of course there are all those endorsements too! Glad to have you on board! 73 Joe KA1PPV #1482

Re: May be a dumb question DM780
If you are asking how to advance the serial number it is put the number in these brackets [ ] square brackets each logging will advance the numbers sequence by one 1. You do not need to do anything to reset the number sequence after the contest. If you shut HRD down it will be reset. Use [XXX] <add-log> this will sequence the number up 1 after each logged contact.

May be a dumb question DM780
Hi guys,
Sadly I am stuck with DM780 at this point due to my visual impairment I have to use HRD to control my rig as it puts everything on my large 42 inch LCD monitor. I would rather use Log4OM but the rig control just is not there at this time. I wish I could connect it to my ICOM RSBA-1 for rig control for my IC-7300 and IC-9100. Ok for my question, when doing contesting and sprints using the macro function to auto increase QSO count for the contest, how do you reset it for another contest or is it automatic based on dates? I am going to to be doing a FH contest and want to know if there is anything to do to reset it so it starts at 001 for this contest. Some contests require serial number exchange and some don't so I am just trying to figure this out ahead of time. I would appreciate all input. Hopefully someday I can dump this HRD because DM780 is so much of a resource hog it is not even funny, FLDIGI uses 1/3 of the resources and does a better job at management and control. 73 de Chris NO7E no7e@arrl.net

Will look for you Saturday. Thanks for posting the spreadsheet and for doing the portable. Some of those grids out west are really really hard to come by!

I live in an area filled with pine and oak. During the summer, nothing short of a cannonball will get through.
I build and air launcher and it works fine in the fall. In the summertime it’s pretty much useless.
A drone won’t be any better (or at least not much) but I want one anyway!

Invest in some PVC and you can pick a reel up at a yard sale. The air launchers really do work. I have short trees, but 100" is realistic.

Re: That Windom [
This isn't mine, but very close. One hint; make the barrel out of 1 1/4. This way you can make projectiles out of short lengths of 1" PVC with end caps. They make a nice fit in the 1 1/4. Put some pennies in the projectile to give it some weight, about an
ounce, and put an eye bolt in one end. 40lbs of pressure will put it over a 40' tree. Use some cheap bulk 20lb test line. Some say 2lb is OK, but you WILL break lighter line.

Thought I save a set of plans for building an air-powered antenna launcher that used a tennis ball (far less destructive that a sinker), but as usual
can't find it. Thought about building one and remember a friend bought one at Dayton a few years ago for $59 and said it was better than slingshot, fishing pole and spud gun. It might be somewhere on the net.

The DM47 is also needed, but is a very long distance from my house. I'll need to plan a weekend for that one. That could be a good winter trip for me. DM28 is far, but is still doable. Considered buying a used bucket truck which I could write off as business expense, but cheapest I could find was around $10k and just couldn't justify that expense. Besides, heard that hydraulics have to be certified every few year
Rental of them starts at about $.300 and up !
So, I'll stick to hiring a climber when needed.
