I'm finally on PSK.  Been a long weekend of work, cleaning/re-arranging the shack, and playing with some JT65.  I've gone over to 20 psk, and it's been dead all day.  I'm seeing some signals on 40.  I NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED to get a better 40m antenna.
Where 'bouts are y'all on the bands tonight?

I worked WA5CAM yesterday from Apple Orchard Mtn SOTA W4V/R-001 while messing around with Golden Packet.  Welcome to the club and hope to work you again when we can chat.

I was running 40 watts to a Yaesu FT857 using PSKDroid on my Samsung Edge 7 phone with a Wolphilink interface.  Used a Buddipole 16ft  mast to hold up a 20 meter lightweight dipole.  Powered by a solar charged 12aH LiFePO4 battery

I plan to do more of the off road ops in the future.

Ham software suites such as Ham Radio Deluxe and DX Labs have gotten so complex that it is hard for anyone to understand all the intricacies. For a newcomer to either of these suites, the learning process can be daunting.
Then there is the old adage that real hams (or perhaps that is real men who are hams) do not read instruction manuals, so we get silly errors such as those noted previously in the thread.

Bill you are so correct .. have been a HRD user since the Simon era and I still refer to the manual. Lots of questions on all the forums are the same just a new day people will not even bother to do a search to see if the answer is before them. I think it is just a symptom of the times we live in. Ask and you shall be answered.

"RT-M" assumes one can read and understand.  Not a safe assumption any more.  "Plug and Play" was an attempt to make things idiot proof.  All it did was make more idiots.  The Law of Unintended Consequences struck again!

Jerry,

If you need EM81, then you’re looking for Brunswick, St. Simons Island, or Jekyll Island – those are the main population areas in that grid.  I know Brunswick has a club; you might Google it and see if you can find someone for a sked.

Keep in mind that this is a QRZ product  and many, many listings have wrong grid tied to call sign. Don't believe it when you see a station in OR  with a grid  for TX .

Here's a link to a grid square locator that I find very handy.  You can search by call, grid square (4 or 6 digit),  or address, city and state, or zip code.  Pops up a map showing the location with a very handy zoom in, zoom out feature.

Rick,

Look for someone in Tifton, Cordele, Douglass, or Waycross.  Douglass and Waycross are out in the sticks, but Tifton and Cordele are a bit larger and have more active hams.

Thanks, but drat!  I only need EM71 and EM81 to finish GA.  Let me know if you start thinking road trip!

Jerry -

I worked Gary K4GZ PSK31 on 7/7/2016 about 14:20 UTC on 20m for EM91bt.  I don't find him on the 070 member list, but his QTH was Ludowici, GA.  Only EM91 I've ever worked on any mode.  Might try to look him up.  One other thing...I was /P from Glacier National Park, MT.  YPMV.  (Your propagation might vary.)

Re: ???

Bill Morton

Jerry,

I have been a Beta tester for HRD for well over 12 years (yes back to the Simon days). I help lots of hams with their set up here in Georgia and across the US for that matter as my give back to the hobby. The one thing I have found that every question I have been asked is documented in the manuals – but one very important thing is necessary – they have to download them and read the manual. Typically, rather than just fixing the problem, I direct them to the right place to read about their problem and then I help them -  A bit harsh I know but it is just necessary or they will always be dependent.

I have just about every Ham Radio software suite on my Ham computer and all of them require a learning curve and some reading of a manual. Just the way it is. They all have their way of doing things. To each his own.

Not sure you could have done more than you did by telling him that he was not looking like a bright ham with blank macros. (they are simple to set up) However, you do have to set the program up right. These are the kinds of folks that get on EHam and flame a company because of their own lack of understanding and not doing the most basic thing – reading the instruction manual. My pet peeve.
