If you're feeling brave - I've been running the new release candidate for a day or two now and it seems pretty stable - it's 1.8.0-rc1. A new mode (FT8) has been added, as has a frequency calibration widget that I haven't quite figured out yet. The download link is at the bottom of the WSJTX page.

I tried to find V1.7.1 but looks like only available to those if you can build WSJT-X from source code. will have to eait for a while. regards Barry ---In 070@..., <n7we1980@...> wrote : Bryon- Tried to respond off-list to your email from QRZ and it bounced. Right now I'm using the microHAM USB III for two reasons. First, even though it costs more, it has a better sound card than the SignalLink (better decode), and second (the major factor for me) it handles rig control communications with the K3 which the SignalLink does not do. Thus using HRD software gives me full computer control of the rig and logging, as well as the most digital modes (but not WSJT modes) through DM780. Yes 20M is a tough one lately. 40M around 00:00-03:00 is vy noisy here and I seldom see anyone. 40M in the early am 12-13Z is fairly good here es I am still getting AS/OC contacts there but still not much from the east. I guess you are at work by then. We keep trying Barry VB7150 ---In 070@..., <joe_molon@...> wrote : Barry, I checked 20m but the condx on that band have been awful lately. Very nice indeed so I will keep looking for your call on 20m & 40m. I usually can tell when I have a chance if I see some stations from "6" land. Re: Station Setup Improvements for Digital Modes
Bryon-
Tried to respond off-list to your email from QRZ and it bounced. So here it is on list! Some of this will be
repeating stuff you know, but it helps explain my thinking. I
note that you are using DX Labs Suite and don't want to change
your logging program. So let me say right up front, I have no
experience with DX Labs but hear good things from those that use
it. I have a K3 (not the K3s) and do almost all digital anymore. I use a microHAM USB III interface to the rig and HRD and WSJT-X for software. More about that in a moment. As you know, the K3 did not include a sound card. It does have a decoder that works on CW, PSK31, and RTTY. Also, PSK31 and RTTY can be sent using a key or paddle without a sound card. There is an upgrade ( KIO3BUPKT) that adds USB and a sound card to make it similar to the K3s. I do not have that upgrade and have always used an outboard sound card/interface. You said you are using a SignalLink for an interface. I've been using microHAM interfaces since I got into PSK in 2006. For JT modes (there is a new WSJT-X out yesterday that has a new mode - FT8!) having rig control through the microHAM allows me to run WSJT-X (all modes) direct - no HRD. WSJT-X has automated rig control built in - band change,
frequency selection, key/unkey, the whole works. I think the
problem you have with JT65 is that JT65 is not able to control
the rig through the SignalLink. I do use WSJT-X JTAlert
software (old version - release 2.7.8) with HRD logging. The trick
is to open HRDlog (without opening HRD) prior to starting WSJT-X
and JTAlert. That automatically logs your WSJT-X qso's to the
HRD log. But you need to stay with the old 2.7.8 version as
Laurie discontinued support of HRD logging with the 2.8 and
later versions - but that's another story. Not sure how JTAlert
interfaces to DX Labs logging, but I'm sure it does and there
should be plenty of info on the web about that. I have not used the computer generated CW - but I should. Don't do CW as I can't hear well and my hands shake. But I have been looking into the K1EL K42 CW Keyboard Kit. It gets rave reviews on eHam, does keyboard CW direct (no interface needed), and has a decoder/display built in. You never see them listed for sale on the used market! It looks like a fairly straight forward kit to build. I'm thinking about saving my pennies to make it a project! Hi hi. Great to see that you are into digital modes and interested in improving your station. If I can help in any way, and that includes info about settings, configurations, or anything else, I'd be happy to do so. I can send screen shots of my configurations if that would be helpful. Hope this helps without confusing. 73
Bryon, and hope to work you again soon. PS - I'm definitely jealous of that

I'll ditto everything the other OM's said regarding the
SignaLink. The SignaLink is a nice unit and I use mine whenever I
am working remote ops with my Icom IC-7000. But at home, using my
TS-590S I simply use the data mode and all the the 'audio' for
digital work rides over the USB cable that plugs into my PC. I don't own an Elecraft (nice rig, by the way) but I know of several people who do and have had great success using the direct USB connection method. So I vote making that the first change to your digital station. Marty - KJ4LQX

Many of the newer radios have a sound card built in.
I have a Icom 7600 connected directly to the computer via USB. A single USB cable connects both as a COM port and as a sound card. It sure makes digital modes easier than having to set up USB to COM adapter for rig control and a sound card modem such as a Signalink, Rigblaster, etc. Ray N9RWC

I run JT65 and PSK31 and do NOT use any Sound Card device (ie. SignaLink, RigBlaster etc.). KX3 connected via USB cable direct to the laptop I use for portable operations. Might try to set up without using any of those devices. I also use only DXLabs as my rig control as well as logging etc. so my setup would be very similar to what you have.
Make sure you download the latest drivers and software updates from Elecraft for your radio, if there are any.
It appears everyone is under the impression that a SignaLink etc. is required to operate the newest of radios. I have found out very, very few of them actually require a SignaLink or comparable device in between the radio and the computer.

I'm looking for ways to improve my station setup when it comes to digital.
I've done mostly PSK31, I've also done JT65, and even less RTTY.
I have an Elecraft K3, connected to a Tigertronics SignaLink USB and into DX Lab Suite.
I do not want to change my logging software. But, I get some strange things using this setup for JT65. It often times does not STOP Tx. So I can manually turn transmit on and off. This wasn't always the case, so I've tried messing with settings. I'm also not sure if the Signalink is giving me the best signal possible.
What items would you change in this setup? What Software do you use for JT65?
I've been away from the list for a long time. We started finishing the basement at the end of last year...where the shack is. The nice thing, the basement is done and I have enough power for 2 HF Amplifiers, but no amp. =) Looking to get back into the modes and digital I prefer. Would love to do CW using the computer if anyone has some input on how to do that well.
Thanks, Bryon Densley, W7RIV

Re: Station Setup Improvements for Digital Modes
Paul <nu4c@...>
Bryan, I am a very active PSKER and a K3 operator. The K3 is a great rig for PSK. I have not used JT65 and rarely use RTTY. The K3 does NOT need any interface for PSK. I use a pair of stereo cables (with 3.5mm stereo plugs, tip, ring, ring) between the radio and computer. I also use the computer's soundcard. I use FLDIGI software for PSK and have it setup to enter each QSO into the included FLDIGI log when I send my SK macro or hit the log button. I enter all my calls in DXKEEPER by hand (Old school, I know. But I am old HI). I have the USB/232 cable connected between the rig and computer, but I don't use it for rig control (Old school again). But I do use it for sending CW. Check before purchase of USB/232 cable with a simple phone call to Elecraft. Some older cables won't work. I have arthritis in both hands and cannot use a key, and no one would listen for very long if I used paddles. So, keyboard sending is it for me. If you haven't downloaded Elecraft's excellent K3 utility, do so. You can build 15 or so macros in it and seamlessly transition to keyboard sending, all at a speed you choose. The Elecraft K3 manual provides clear set up instructions for stereo cable and 232 cable set up and connection. Have fun & 73 de Paul NU4C #824 Sent from my Galaxy Tab® A

Mike,
Don't see anybody. The PropNet sigs have also disappeared.
When the propagation is there, nobody is calling/listening on PSK. Lots of other modes active.
Keep an eye on DXMaps for all the red traces, post to PODXS070 and get in there and call CQ.
Sometimes that works.
