Trying to get active on PODX 070 again!  40 meters is a dead band for me right now.  Can see a trace when I call CQ but it is not enough to print.  No Firecrackers for now - wait for next event.  WB5LAI - Van - MS

Afternoon all,A couple of days ago, several of you assisted me with QSOs to get me over a hundred with members. Thank you all for that.
I have been reading about the Sprint. I need to give my excuses for not participating-- though I may be able to get on later this evening.
Saturday and Sunday are not always easy for me to get on as these days are my 'work days' and am spending much time in Church.
I also love CW and like to participate in the SKCC sprints, but again weekends are hard.
So please forgive for not being on. Maybe later tonight and of course during the week; I try to get on for a little bit each day, hihi!!
Ok thanks for letting me vent, now back to 'work'.

  Jon,
See, that's the great thing about ham radio.  We are always trying to improve.  Whether it is finding a way to squeeze out that DX station or just trying, in my case, to squeeze out an extra milliwatt  we are always striving to improve our situations.  Realistically the sun exerts a ton of control over our radio hobby and it doesn't much matter if you have tower and beam or just a wire:when the prop stinks it stinks. ( I think it's a Law of Nature) Right now I am using an 80/40 dipole up about 17 ft and it seems to be working. (At least Jerry thinks so hi hi)
Happy 4th of July to all PODXS and hope to see you OTA.

That is an option as well. All I'd need then is a decent antenna switch. I may just do that

For what it's worth, I'm using a
homebrew fan dipole at 45 ft. I love being able to change
bands and not have to tune,  and it talks pretty decent
too. what I don't like is the noise.  I spend more time
fiddling with the dsp than i did with the tuner. I wound a 1
to 1 current balun in it, but am thinking that I will swap
it out for a voltage balun and see if that helps.  I have
also considered replacing it with a yard full of
bazookas.

I hate to do it, but I'm going to throw in the
towel for this contest. I was able to make about 5
QSO's, and I'm happy with that, considering my
antenna. As some of you may know, I haven't been on HF
in about 5 years. So, yesterday, I decided to fire up the
radio and I've had a blast.

My 40 - 80 meter antenna is less than desirable. It hears
great, but it doesn't talk worth a darn. Now, before I
describe this "antenna" you have to promise not to
laugh. I bought this off of ebay years ago. It's made
out of either speaker cable or lamp cord. The legs are
still together. Now, one leg is 100 foot, and the other is
50 foot. It's fed by a balum to 50 Ohm coax. I've
got it run along the privacy fence about 5 or 6 foot off the
ground. Yeah, less than desirable, but some times you have
to do what you have to do. I'm thinking about making a
multi-band fan dipole with 40/30/20/10. That should get me
the bands that I want. I also have a 80 meter double
bazooka for, well, 80 meters. I have a 20 bazooka that I
use for 20 and 30. It seems to do well, but I want to see
if I can do better. I've never really thought about
getting on 40, until this contest hihi.

Re: Firecracker Sprint

Fr Richard R

Afternoon all,
A couple of days ago, several of you assisted me with QSOs to get me over a hundred with members.

I see there's less than 3 hours left in the contest.  I've been off doing family stuff yesterday & today, but I'm going to try to jump on soon and see if I can get a contact or two before its all done.

the bands that I want. I also have a 80 meter double
bazooka for, well, 80 meters. I have a 20 bazooka that I
use for 20 and 30. It seems to do well, but I want to see
if I can do better. I've never really thought about
getting on 40, until this contest hihi.

to do what you have to do. I'm thinking about making a
multi-band fan dipole with 40/30/20/10. That should get me
the bands that I want. I also have a 80 meter double
bazooka for, well, 80 meters. I have a 20 bazooka that I
use for 20 and 30. It seems to do well, but I want to see
if I can do better. I've never really thought about
getting on 40, until this contest hihi.

Watching my callsign pop up on the pskreporter and hamspots

JT,
That is an option as well.

For what it's worth, I'm using a homebrew fan dipole at 45 ft. I love being able to change bands and not have to tune,  and it talks pretty decent too. what I don't like is the noise.  I spend more time fiddling with the dsp than i did with the tuner. I wound a 1 to 1 current balun in it, but am thinking that I will swap it out for a voltage balun and see if that helps.  I have also considered replacing it with a yard full of bazookas.

I hate to do it, but I'm going to throw in the towel for this contest. I was able to make about 5 QSO's, and I'm happy with that, considering my antenna. As some of you may know, I haven't been on HF in about 5 years. So, yesterday, I decided to fire up the radio and I've had a blast.

My 40 - 80 meter antenna is less than desirable. It hears great, but it doesn't talk worth a darn. Now, before I describe this "antenna" you have to promise not to laugh. I bought this off of ebay years ago. It's made out of either speaker cable or lamp cord. The legs are still together. Now, one leg is 100 foot, and the other is 50 foot. It's fed by a balum to 50 Ohm coax. I've got it run along the privacy fence about 5 or 6 foot off the ground. Yeah, less than desirable, but some times you have to do what you have to do. I'm thinking about making a multi-band fan dipole with 40/30/20/10. That should get me the bands that I want. I also have a 80 meter double bazooka for, well, 80 meters. I have a 20 bazooka that I use for 20 and 30. It seems to do well, but I want to see if I can do better. I've never really thought about getting on 40, until this contest hihi.

Jerry,
If you are on now, and a 13 colonies special event station, I'd like to try for another - we've worked in the past - QSO.  What frequency are you on?  I'll look for you.

I see you calling CQ for members only.
