Bad news is that I have no remote rig control, so I can't switch bands. In fact I have no idea what the radio is really doing.

Good news is that KE6KJD, Bob in Arizona, replied to my CQ so I have my contact for the 16th. Looks like the band is going long now. I also see YV5IAL calling CQ.

Thanks to the group for listening, and for Bob and Adam's replies and attempts to hear me. I should be home early enough on Friday to get a QSO on the 17th, which is my last missing day in February.

Just got to my hotel room and trying to make a 40m QSO via remote access for my 365 of the day.

Thank you Joe!  Very helpful and I didn't know of that overlay.

I have found that the Google Earth overlay offered by RSGB is extremely accurate because it comes from the source.

If you already have Google Earth on your computer you can download an overlay that will accurately identify which islands are in what group.  I've never had a problem with it.

It is located at:  www.rsgbiota/help/googleEarthFile.php

Okay on not working with 746PRO.  They have a pin out for jumpers for use with 716.  There is a different 1279M or 1279T models are for radios with 4 wire mic plugs.

Tried to talk him into a Tigertronics USB, but he was dead set of MFJ because that's what he used to have...aaaaarrrrgghhhh !

Thanks  !   I'll have another go at it later this week.

I don't know about the 718, but the MFJ 1279 will not work with the 746 Pro. The MFJ techs couldn't figure out why that was so. I never owned a 718, but it may a similar design feature that prevents that 1279 from functioning through the mic connector. It does fine on cow transmit though.

MFJ-1279 Help ?

Jerry N9AVY

Hey everyone !

Stopped by an old  (070 # 437)  QTH  today  and tried to help him get back on PSK. At present he's got a  718  with a MFJ 1279 and a Dell win 7 laptop.

Got it working on receive okay, but the xmit no work.  It got late and I was due back home so, I told him I'd be back in a day or so.

Just got home and printed manual (I have so other online research about alarm products tonight), but haven't time to read through it.  His copy was incomplete and was missing a few pages.

So if anyone has had an experience with the MFJ-1279 and can give some pointers, I'd appreciate it.

TIA,

Well now....that was interesting!

Got on at 00:00.  I thought prop was pretty poor.  And there didn't seem to be a whole lot of players.  Only managed one YL - Thanks Mary KC4TIE!  Worked several 070 regulars on 40.  When they ran out switched to 80.  Worked the same group down there.  Tried CQ on 160 - nothing.  About 2 1/2 hours in to my 6 hour block I lost interest and told myself "maybe next time."

Maybe it was prop, maybe it was because it was mid-week, maybe it was poor choosing of my start time.  But there sure didn't seem to be much action.  All in all, not the most fun I've had in one of our contests.

Hope your experience was great and that you worked a bunch and had a ball.

Hi there,
Dug my way through nearly 2' of snow to get to the shack.
Played for about an hour made a few 40m and 80m contacts and one on 160.
Spent most of the evening working on endorsement stickers.
Nearly all on the way.
