31 Flavors - 6 hour block

Steven Stalker

Group,

I have a Tech class to teach in the middle of the 31 Flavors contest. Does the 6 hour block need to be continuous or can one do 2 or 3 blocks to total the 6 hours?

31 Flavors Medium Power Question

Bill Garwood

Hi Folks,

The 070 Club website says for the upcoming 31 Flavors Contest.

QRP:Maximum power not exceeding 5 watts

Low:Maximum power not exceeding 20 watts

Medium:Maximum power not exceeding 50 watts

http://podxs070.com/o7o-club-sponsored-contests/31-flavors

The WA7BNM Contest Calendar states:

PODXS 070 Club PSK 31 Flavors Contest: 1000Z, Apr 9 to 0400Z, Apr 10

Medium: 100 watts
Low: 20 watts
QRP: 5 watts

http://www.hornucopia.com/contestcal/weeklycont.php#6775

The scorer from last year.  http://hamclubs.info/scorer/?contest_id=31-FLAVORS&year=2015&info=1

Has medium power as 100 watts.

The 070 website should be the final authority.  50 watts maximum would have a booming signal on 20 meters.  Maybe the WA7BNM calendar needs to be corrected?

Any comments or suggestions?

73,

Bill N4GBK

Nope, you don't. That's why I said you need to check your recipients.

And if you ever operate from a different park, you should set up a different QTH (and NPOTA number) for it even if you use the same callsign.

Be very careful about this. There has been a great deal of consternation on the ARRL-LOTW YahooGroup about operators uploading the same log multiple times and either changing or completely deleting the NPOTA designation. I know that DXK has a way to manage it, but you might just check one of your recipients (i.e., someone to whom you sent a LOTW confirmation) to make sure the NPOTA credit has not been overwritten by your master log.

Re: DXLab multiple logs

John Etling

Thanks Dave.

That info was extremely helpful. I have read the DXLab Wiki numerous times but finding a specific answer sometimes can be a daunting task using the wiki. I thought of doing exactly the latest suggestion (concatenating the file) but figured that left too much room for error and although not a lot of time would have been involved… just felt that was a bad move… experience from my old programming day...

I think I resolved it by simply making sure all the QSO’s on the laptop were set to /QRP and basically setup DXK the same way on my Laptop as I do with my “Master” system. I exported the QSO’s from the laptop to a standard ADIF and then imported that file into my Master. It appears to have worked well. Those calls made QRP show the QRP home QTH, and what not. I uploaded the file to the 070-checker and breathed a huge sigh of relief when I saw all my previous endorsements, credits toward same etc. all worked out beautifully. All info in the log came over to the Master fine.

Hopefully LoTW will not be a problem. I actually uploaded those QRP logs via the LoTW on the laptop and seem to think the master credited them as uploaded. We shall see if credit is received if they will show in the Master.

From John K3JAE:

Because I use a separate machine and account for my QRP work, I uploaded that ADI file separately to the log checker.

I lost ALL my 365 day credits. Is there a way to merge the two logs so as to get credit for them?

Dave, this is more your expertise… I use DXLabs on the laptop for QRP work as well as using DXLabs on my main setup at the QTH. I do not generally merge the logs (Mainly because I do not know how in DXLab) and my LoTW setup is different due to the call sign difference. With that being said how do I keep my credit for home station work and QRP work if I upload 2 separate logs?

If you wish, email me off reflector and explain how I can do this please.

I definitely recommend a single "master" log with all Q's in; in your case both /QRP and regular home call.

I'll assume that your main setup will be the "master" ..  General approach is that the alternate qth/callsign (in this case a /QRP) is logged on the laptop DXKeeper, and you export from there, and import into the mater dxkeeper.

DXKeeper has a lot of key features/functionality to support all of this, including marking the QSO's with the profile they came from, and handling separate LoTW,  eQSL, and paper QSL'ing for each profile.

First thing is to setup the profiles, which are called "myQTHs" in DXKeeper.

You'll need a home K3JAE one,  and a QRP one for K3JAE/QRP

It's easiest to name these the same as eqsl profiles.

When importing a log, you can specify what myQTH to set for all of the newly imported QSO's, so this is how you can easily mark all the Q's from the laptop with the specific myQTH in the master log.  (DXK import all supports duplicate detection).

In the myQTH config, you can set which profiles counts towards DXCC or WAS.

And award checking is also easy by filtering on myQTH and then using the progress tab.

The QSL configuration has support for the different profiles, too; and for paper cards you can use macros for some of the labels that are values from the specific myQTH configuration.

My goal here was just to highlight the DXKeeper functionality that's relevant to your scenario -- There's a lot more in the DXKeeper documentation, and the DXLab reflector is a good resource as well.

And having everything in one master log, then you can just filter on mode for all PSK (both home myQTH and the /QRP myQTH) and export that to ADIF to feed to the 070 endorsement checker.

I do not recommended it (especially when DXKeeper is in use because of the functionality it provides), but for completeness will mention it --  it's easy to concatenate adif files using a text editor ... just strip the header off of one file and append the qso data to another file.
