Re: Any antenna gurus here?
Ted <pegduck56@...>
Hi Martin, I have up now, 2 identical Alpha Delta DX-EE as inverted V's. (1 roughly E-W and the other roughly N-S) I can get a match of about 1.5 max on bands 10-80 (incl WARC bands) (80 is admittedly not great, but installed 30 meter end fed wire that handles 80-160m). All these wires are low profile and wife and neighbors are happy. I believe that unless you have an extensive radial field (which takes a lot of room, too) a vertical is just radiating poorly in all directions. The verticals that claim you don't need radials are at best, misleading, if not lying. The problem with the GR5V is that it is a design for 20m. All other bands are simply a compromise with that antenna. good luck with the project !! 3, Ted K7TRK

At the moment I have a G5RV up in the trees on my property with the ends in about a 30 degree angle from each other due to the fact one end strung from the top of a tree on the bottom of a hill and the other from a tree on the top. Height is probably 60ft. I am really close to a mountain less than a mile away with nearly a vertical 2000ft risen (see my qrz page) and the back of my property has a steep hillside. The YL does not want towers so I am limited there. I am thinking to get a vertical antenna for a different radiation pattern but I think the low take off angle might not clear the hill and mountain. What are my options here? Build dedicated vertical arrays on the hillside? Regular vertical ground mounted? String vertical dipole from a tree? Use a yagi on an angle to clear the mountain? Anything else? Martin KG7HAX

The ADIF spec has links to the allowed county values: This is the list I've used: It has "MT,Lewis & Clark" (ampersand, not the word "and"), and "MD,Prince George's" (the apostrophe is allowed). The independent cities like Norfolk are oddballs -- there 's more info here: And I don't think i added support for them in the ADIF validator, so just ignore those ... 73! --david KJ4IZW

ADIF Validator
Seems I have made the ADIF Validator mad again with counties I have.. Anyone have some time to help me out here, might just need one of them for some kind of award :) Hi Hi....
bad value: 'VA,NORFOLK' - Googling Norfolk always comes up with "Formed out of consolidation of Norfolk County (extinct) and City of South Norfolk(extinct)" or "Norfolk, Va. is not located in a county. Norfolk is an independent city; its city government is run by a city manager and a city council elected to represent the city's districts, rather than by a county government." I have like 10 contacts all putting that as their county and don't have credit for any of them it seems. What do others put as the county to get credit?
bad value: 'LA,East Baton Rouge' - No idea on this one. Looks right to me. bad value: 'MT,Lewis and Clark' - Should it be Lewis & Clark?bad value: 'MD,Prince Georges' - This one is always Prince George's. Can you put the 's in there and not make it mad?

On the left coast, I have been monitoring but haven't seen a trace on 7.070 for the last two hours. I hope the antenna is still connected, HI. Tom K8TOM

Just be aware even though the band doesn’t sound good and only band noise you hear. I have been up sporadically during the early morning hours and just started calling CQ not thinking there was a soul around. Usually after a few minutes (or maybe 10 or 15) all of a sudden out of the clear blue and blank waterfall there is a signal!!! I have been fortunate the last week and pretty much got a contact while up early for hours I needed (0400-0500Z hours). This morning on 40M it seemed hopeless at about 0448Z or so an F1ABE answered my CQ!! that totally shocked me. I actually worked him for both the 0400Z and 0500Z hours. I also worked TX and did see a couple other traces. then I woke up again (missed the 0700Z hour) but got the 0800Z hour from someone in AZ. All signals were 599.

a shocker for me, especially this time of morning so maybe the propagation is going to be nice for us for awhile. Mike, K6MKF, sorry but did not see your trace at all either. Maybe again sometime. Dan Morris KZ3T 070-1065 dbmorris315@...

Ok, I’m around 7072or 7073 — I’ll keep trying for awhile since I’m so close to the 0500Z hour.
