Well, I played in the TDW once before a few years ago but not much at all.  This time was able to participate much more although not as much as I liked as we have family here for a couple of weeks. But those times I was able to get on I had a blast and was also able to work 40 and 80 this time which I have not been able to do in years.  So a good time was had. I will submit my meager log anyway.  thanks to all who made a contact with me.   It was also a good one to acquire many new 070 numbers!

It is really sad that those who cry and whine the loudest about contesters probably never gave a thought that many of the advances in antenna design, radio design, you name it came from the contesters who wanted/demanded better performance from their equipment. I am not the biggest contester out there, but I do enjoy my Icom 7410 with it's twin pass band filters, 9 levels of audio filters going all the way to 250, and I can make it even smaller if I also use the notch filter. I could go on all afternoon. Granted there are a lot of radios better than mine, but what incentive is there for the equipment manufacturers to make better equipment if the anti-contest CB's (cty babies) have their way.

Luckily I have avoided him. He did call me, with me clearly calling CQ-070 TDW, and recognizing his call figured he wanted to further inflict his filth so I decided to ignore him to spare listening to his rant and his hatefulness towards any contest. John -

Please be patient. Those QSOs will count. Just allow time for the software bots to catch up with each other. Submitting your entry before the contest is even over means the bots can't possibly catch up with folks who are just joining now.

And even if David tells everyone to upload again, that's so much easier than the way we (and all other contest organizations) used to have to submit contest entries.

Re: Sent a couple to web site

Guys,

Mia Culpa...

I stand corrected on this. A station does NOT have to give you an 070 number for it to count for LONP.

I got carried away and was only thinking in terms of it being a contest qso today.

Thanks Πολύ to Steve for calling that to my attention.

Just wondering if credit will be given to the new stations if worked during TDW. I just submitted my log a 2 of the higher numbers were kicked even though they are show they are approved. Need clarification on this please and if credit will be given, will the checker “recheck” the submitted logs and award points for working them.

OK, well I now have three contacts where member numbers have been swapped and the 070 is coming up as “wrong number” in the checker. Guess I’ll wait a few days unless Dave comes in and says he can re-run submitted logs.

John -

Multiple facets to this question:

1. For TDW credit, the stations must have exchanged 070 member numbers. That's a contest requirement. If one station doesn't know his/her number yet, then there's no way for them to complete the required exchange.

2. Assuming the required exchange did occur, then the situation you describe could be a consequence of the right hand (the contest scoring bot) not knowing what the left hand (membership processing bot) is doing. David has these bots on timers for sharing data, and you may have uploaded before a deadline. I'm sure if you resubmit in a few days, all will be well. (There might also be a way for David to force a reprocessing of already-submitted logs, but I'm not sure about that.)

3. For LONP credit, the QSO will count even if the member number is not exchanged--that's not a requirement for 070 awards like LONP. And there's even a small loophole in that all memberships are presumed to start at 0001z on the membership date. So if a station submits an 070 membership app at 2355z, your QSO with him/her at 0010z more than 23 hours earlier will count for LONP points. But again, this may not happen immediately as the awards checker bot may need to wait for a database update.

Re: Sent a couple to web site

Just wondering if credit will be given to the new stations if worked during TDW. I just submitted my log a 2 of the higher numbers were kicked even though they are show they are approved. Need clarification on this please and if credit will be given, will the checker “recheck” the submitted logs and award points for working them.

I just approved him - he's number 2065!  He's been sent an email telling him his number and inviting him to join the lists.
