Believe me, I do my share of calling CQ!

If anyone sees me on the band, let me know how my signal is.  During a recent QSO with a SA call, someone came on freq and asked  "cb amp?"   Don't know if he was referring to me or the other station.  I do no use an amp, I am barefoot with 40 watts max.

"Not seeing any traces on the waterfall".  10 meters is interesting at times.  Called CQ a few minutes ago on a "dead" band and worked D3AM in Angola.  You may want to give a couple of CQs on the dead band once in a while.  This is how I got Thailand and Easter Island last year on PSK31.  Some of the rarer DX stations will not call CQ but will answer yours then they will again disappear before the pileup piles up.

Jerry, Rick et al,

And yesterday, when I got K1N on 10 CW, for my log and the W6QP log, the solar flux was 151, "A" index was 6, and the "K" index was 1.

Men, there were some *bodacious signals coming from So. America!

When the Solar Flux is 85, we wont have the problem of nearby stations.

When Bouvet is activated next year, I sure hope there's something left for us. That's one of the 5 entities I need for  "Top of the Honor Roll".

*Bodacious - an adjective originated in Louisiana, at LSU, to describe the score when LSU plays Ole Miss in football.

Jerry Ive had that happen a lot.  I think its because they WANT to work you but have no idea how to answer a QSO.  Just answer  someone calling
them after a CQ.  Its sort of like the guys that have no idea how to run split.

On Monday, February 9, 2015 2:07 PM, "Jerry n9avy@... [070]" <070@...> wrote:

Why is is whenever I find a really clear frequency to call CQ...  like 21069 or 28119 ...  and there is not a single PSK signal within sight , after I start calling CQ they all show up on or very close to my frequency ???    Sometimes they even start calling CQ on my frequency and even take it over.  Such was the case this morning on 15/10m.  It really frazzled my nerves !

Maybe this is the "herd instinct", you know, like with cows. You city guys probably never saw a herd of cows all try to occupy the same piece of turf.  Cows are inherently stupid. Years ago we tried to get 2 black angus steers in a 2-stall horse trailer after they went astray.  Both of them went into same stall ! It was like stuffing a telephone booth back in the 60's !  Duh !

I was trying to find the last 3 UR/UX stations I needed and that made the search a lot less fun. Finally got the needed 3 about 2 or 3 Valiums later which I washed down with a couple brewskis. I am now calm ...  just wish the room would stay still....

To add to today's frustration I decided that now that the pileups were whittled down some, I'd take a stab at working the K1N on Navassa. First tried 10m SSB and after a small incident with one of the "Band Cops" calling me a LID, I finally worked Jerry (WB9Z) as K1N.  Next I took a shot at 12 CW and made it.  The last was 17 m CW and after much frustration of calling and calling I got through,  but again I had a slight "oops" and transmitted on K1N's frequency and not many noticed because of all the Band Cops, tuner-upers and deliberate QRM.  Except my friend called me on phone to ask what I was doing on wrong frequency .

So it was a perfekt day and tomorrow I'll stay in bed and not go near a radio.  Maybe I'll go back to cleaning basement ....
