Me too I thought since what Steve said I would move around also and try calling but evidently the props are just not there for us.

I think we have a bit of a quandary.
As soon as you publish a freq we have some ops that start trying to call you on your freq.
We cant hear through that so would appreciate if you move occasionally to give the rest of
us a chance to pick you out.
Must be hell trying to make sense of a mess.

I'm not seeing anything on the waterfall yet.

And yes, please don't call on-frequency unless you hear me. My copy of DigiPan is running the multichannel receiver with Tx locked, so I can click anywhere in the audio passband to work split.

I did the math right this time. (Don't want to be embarrassed by Bill again.) Rig at 14069.80, audio tone at 1250 Hz.

But please keep letting me know if there is QRM there.

I've seen folks calling you, Steve, but nary a trace of you. My 20m Extended Double Zepp is facing dead on 45 degrees which is the right heading for me, but it's just not enough to dig your signal out, I guess....

Good luck - hope you make many other contacts!

Robert:

Hey, I not knocking QRP ops... just the ones who thing they can jump in a pileup with a few other stations and work DX.  They usually can't compete with people running 50-100 watts and only add to the QRM.

Friends of mine have been on DXpeditions to rare places and all they hear is a "wall of noise" because you have 10,000 or more stations calling them with 100 watt radios.

I like to work DX and have a small 500 watt amp (out of service/broken), but when I hear a pileup and it's something I need, I turn on the amp and call. Yes, I get beat out by the kilowatt and then some stations with big antennas, but I beat out all those 100 watt guys.  I have spent countless hours with 100 watts in pileups over the last 30+ years and am tired of beating my had against a wall; so, a few years ago I bought an amp.

But there is a place for QRP guys , but they need realize that they have limitations and to work with it.  I was talking about the QRP stations I had in pile this weekend where I call CQ and get an answer like "@#%&GFDSWM

Oh well,  QRP is neat for those who have the patience. I don't, but that's me.

now you are dangerously close to raining on my parade as I enjoy working the weak signals with low power.  Any chowder eater with a 12 element beam at 200 feet and a 1500 watt amp can work the 50 watt station on his ground wave. It is a real accomplishment to work that backpacker with an 817 on a small solar recharge for his/her backpack batteries and a long wire in the evergreens in my H.O., but to each his/her own poison/pleasure. Best wishes

Modest ... schmodest !   Don't underestimate to power of PSK31.  It's probably better to be a little pistol on PSK than a big gun.

I've noticed that with 40-50 watts and 3 elements at 40 ft. or 39.9 ft, that I seem t attract a lot of QRPO & QRPp stations which may be good for them, but makes my job harder when trying to pull them out of the muck or even worse 3 or 4 QRP guys in a pileup !

So, you guys with modest stations may be in a better position. Count your blessings.

Ray,

My system is pretty modest, too (4BTV with no radials), but there were a
lot a dead spots on the signup sheet so I figured some contacts
(especially on bands like 30m) would be better than nothing.
