Okay, looks like 15m is open between VQ9 and NA. I'm copying N2IIE and W1AW/9(!) and N8FTZ (I think).

I'm calling CQ at about 21135.

W1AW/9 now is using PSK63 and has spread out and is over top of your freq.  Looks like the EU stations are having fun.  You are on HamSpots..they're lining up for a rare one.

Probably wrong time of year for propagation between VQ9 and NA.  Probably should have your employer send you only when there is good prop to NA !  :-)

Workin the W1AW/9 thing I haven't had any prop into Indian Ocean area except for an FR5 that came up on my frequency and had a few Q's, so I moved and he followed me ! Sure hope you don't run into some of members of Worldwide LIDs Association that I ran into !  :-)  After a week of that I'll never be the same.

No, we're not union. (Not that there's anything wrong with that...) We're just good at what we do, and we got lucky and didn't have any major "gotchas" in this job. But the rest of the team is motivated to get home, and don't see the advantages of having an employer-paid DXpedition.

The ClubLog stats showed a peak in VQ9-W/K QSOs between 1500z and 1700z on 10m, so that's not inconsistent. There are similar peaks on the other bands--1400-1600z on 15m, and 1400-1700z on 20m.

At this point, I just want to make some QSOs, so I'm willing to try anything. I see a few signals on each of the bands from 10 to 20, but nothing from NA or SA.

Leaving early ?  Obviously, not a union job or you'd have another week or so. :-)

Your email hit here at 4 AM  CST and 10m hasn't opened up here until about 7:30 AM CST because I've been on W1AW/9 time slot for 6-8 AM CST and it's real quiet.  Scheduled to start at 8 AM CST today, but it's raining so not too positive about anything happening today on 10m PSK.

Good luck and make lots of folks in Europe happy !

Just when you think you have everything worked out...

We found out today that our flight off the island is delayed 24 hours. But because of our progress on the tasks, our team lead has moved us to an earlier flight that leave on Wednesday night. As a result, I only have about 54 hours left here before I have to be at the airport.

I'm on the air now, on 10m, but I see only Europe and a ZS station. I'll be breaking for dinner in about an hour, and hopefully back on later for a while.

Seven hours of sleep can do wonders, including giving one the ability to communicate a little better, and clearing the mind to identify problems.

- I think my tiredness had more to do with a full day of work, at least half of which was outdoor physical labor during southern hemisphere summer, on a day which the cafeteria sign said was 102F.

- On at least some of the bands (15m comes to mind), there were lots of signals, but all Europeans running PSK63 in a contest. Almost no one seemed to be paying attention to my little PSK31 signal. I didn't see anything on 10m though--that really was dead.

- And speaking of little signal, I realized when I woke up this morning (that clarity of mind thing) that I might still have been at the 5 watts RF output level I was using last week during my final equipment test--and I was. So I wasn't taking advantage of the capability of the 857--I was no better than the 817 I had replaced in that regard.

The good news is that the work is going really well, so we won't have to pull really long shifts to get our job done. And that translates to more personal time. And there's only one more task that involves significant outdoor labor, so that should mean I don't crash quite as hard in the evening.

Thanks for listening for me. I'll try to do better tonight.

Sorry guys but I am of little faith of any type of propagation model.  And the fact that Steve was falling asleep because of no signals proves my case.   The only propagation model I believe in is when they are actually working some stations and there is actually propagation.  Just MHO.

The West Coast will be listening for you. If there's an opening of any kind it will probably be on long path. Look for 'fluttery' traces on your waterfall.
