Re: Another WITWIS Opportunity

Jim K5SP

I will wager that the "rock" of today is nothing like the rock I was station on in 1976-1977.  I was chief op of the Mars station (NNN0NRS) and operated was WB6EWH/VQ9. Sent the CQWW record for 15M from VQ9 in 76, and it still stands today.

We lived in "Mods", four room quarters, 4 people to a room.  The seabees lived in "hooches" which were wooden huts with screen for windows.  I was there for the "great donkey roundup" which was an abysmal failure, trying to relocate all the donkeys to the plantation side of the island.  They build a chain link fence across the island down by the "T" site, and all the donkeys did was walk around the fence at low tide.

For those of you chasing WITWIS, there's another opportunity coming up starting late next week. If all goes well, VQ9HF should be back on the air for a short time.

The plan is to arrive on Diego Garcia late in the evening (local time) on 4 December, and leave early in the morning on 12 December. As should be expected, this is a work trip so I won't be able to spend full-time on the radio. And operating times will be whatever time is "left over" after the work is done. But I should have internet access so I'll try to post on the reflector when I expect to be on.

Those of you who were around two years ago when I last went to VQ9 might remember the difficulty I had operating with the FT817--Dave (WB5NHL) was the only North American station who copied my signal. I did a little better in the last few days of that trip when I was able to borrow an FT-857. I've since acquired my own 857, so this trip will definitely not be QRP. I still plan to use my trusty portable vertical antenna, though, as the VQ9X station has supposedly been completely dismantled.

(Photos from that last trip are on the YahooGroups web site at

I'll post more information as it becomes available.

Not upset here.  Thought you might want to modify your auto emails.

Thank you for your kindness with Photon and us.

1415 UTC RI1ANT is on 21.072.200.

I can see him but he is weak here with lots of EU stations calling.  Maybe someone with a Yagi or better antenna can work him?

This should be hole #17 on PSK Golf, grid NC93.

Re: MixW V.2.12 ?

David Westbrook

not a direct answer (i don't know anything about mixw), but here's general logger info on that scenario...

This is handled in ADIF by the  and  fields.

http://www.adif.org/304/ADIF_304.htm#STATION_CALLSIGN
the logging station's callsign (the callsign used over the air)

    the logging operator's callsign

the callsign of the owner of the station used to log the contact (the callsign of the OPERATOR's host)

DXKeeper allows for profiles, where you can set the station QTH, the station callsign, operation callsign, and owener callsign (and it exports those in ADIF using the above fields).  for normal home use, these are all the same.

Jerry - Don’t know if this will work, but I give my own personal call in addition to the W6OI call therefore I can enter those in my normal log and just make a notation those contacts were also use as W6OI.   that way you will not have to use a separate log.  I would assume that would be for any log used.

So, for my PSK Express (DG log)  i also gave my personal call and only logged one time but I know from the dates which ones were also W6OI/4 — Hope that helps
