I've been letting David's WTW checker do all the brain work, too !  This whole WTW is giving me an Excedrin headache, hi !   Need lots on A's and N's, yet....

If you're not using David's WTW Checker, you should because it's less painful.

Ted,
I was under the same impression until I used David's  WTW checker program.
You are allowed to use the same station's suffix letter 9 times in totat
(once for each of the 9 sections  SA, AU, OC, etc.).  Go git um!!!

Re: Today on 20m

David Westbrook

These are the two key logic rules:
* A QSO can only be used once per WTW (entire award).
* A callsign can only be used once per Endorsement (SA, NA, AU, etc).

So yes, work stations multiple times!! A callsign can be used up to 9 times
(1 per endorsement) in some cases ... This is case if you see multiple
yellow (partial progress) cells for a given letter in the WTW checker ...
It's also why there's a "used-up callsigns" list on the WTW checker for
reference.

The checker handles all of that, so just work 'em all and it'll sort it
out :)

End of Life for Callsign lookup software

Jeff Steinkamp

If you are a user of my Hamcall, Hamcall Search or FCC Lookup software, those program have reached end of life. They are being replaced with Calllookup. The new program is written entirely in Java making it suitable to run on Windows, Linux and Mac, whereas the others were windows based only.

You can download the program from http://www.n7yg.com/java.html

The windows download is an installer. The Linux download is a zip archive that can be extracted anywhere in your HOME tree. You might have to create a launch script if your machine is not setup to run the java realtime with files that have the .jar extension. If that is the case, launch it from a command line as java -jar calllookup.jar from the folder where it is installed.

For Mac users, I do not have an installer for Mac, but the same rules for Linux will basically apply to the Mac.

Currently the data source will be my callsign server, but future additions will have support for the subscription services at QRZ XML and HamQTH.

The program functions exactly the same as those that are being replaced. For the FCC Lookup users, you will no longer need to download the FCC data as the data on my server is updated on a weekly basis.

It was the usual "weekend warrior" mess with a bunch of WIDE signal and the usual rudeness.  However, there were a couple of bright spots today.

Actually heard a station ask "QRL ?"  (Is frequency busy ?)  before calling "CQ" ...  sign of a good operator.  Next, I helped a station in Maryland work a station in Idaho by telling Idaho station that the MD station was calling.  Got an email from MD station thanking me and that was a nice surprise !

Guess we can all be better/helpful operators, huh ?
