Jim's GAZETTE
Newsletter #131
5 October 2002

Please feel free to forward this newsletter to any and all interested
parties, or to reproduce it in
any publication. All we ask is that you give credit where it is due.

SHORT NOTES: If you think for a moment that I have time to write this
newsletter, you are hereby sentenced to 30 days on 160 meters with a 4 foot
vertical antenna and 25 watts out. Please report your DX count at the end of
your one month's isolation!

There is a lot of detail to report and that is the focus of this abbreviated
number. First If you MMTTY in JARTS, you should know that there is a download
that will convert your log into a suitable format. Go get MMJARTS at
www.qsl.net/mmhamsoft/mmtty/index.html. Good luck.

Want new mode activity?? Goetz DK3IW is on 28130 calling CQ in MT63. Try it.

Dean W5PJR joined the rare climate the other day when officially notified
that he was the newest member of the RTTY Honor Roll. This is not a large
club!
He informed me that he planned to celebrate with a special martini. I
informed him that regulations required two of those. His reply assured me
that his
was large enough to be divided into two glasses of normal size. We accepted
his explanation and congratulate him on a great achievement, compiled
over the past 21 years.

Big news! XE1L and N8SHZ, plus some ops from EA, will be operating SO7L from
Western Sahara from October 8 to 13th. QSL via EA4URE.

Jay AA8QQ has a Christmas wish list already. (He's even ahead of Walmart!!).
It involves requesting a wrapped up package containing a DSP sound card
program that integrates with his other software. A modest request, he would
also like it to be a freebie. I'd buy that. Hi! Seriously, read about the
details
on the GAZETTE. And, remember, Christmas is just around the corner.

Jeremy N1ZZZ assures me that there are about 10 ops out there each evening
chatting on Clover on a regular basis. They gather on 20M but there also
seems to be some activity on 21.065.5LSB as well. Jeremy also noted that he
was on the RF side of an Echo-Link contact for the first time. Try it at
www.echolink.org.

Speaking of those fabled 160 meters (and I rarely do except in jest!!), PODXS
070 Club announced last week the GREAT PUMPKIN 160M PSK31 SPRINT. It
will run October 27 and start at 2000 LOCAL TIME and wind up at 0200 LOCAL
TIME. Good luck to anyone willing to try this sort of activity! If my SGC
tuner
arrives in time, I may have to listen, after tuning my 4 foot vertical for
the proper frequency. Hi!!

An ever busier PODXS also announced a December 14th Prefix contest for every
single digital mode. Get the rules at www.qsl.net/wm2u/070_dpx.html.

80 Meter PSK31?? A contest?? Yeah, and there were some participants and some
results. See the latest high-claimed scores at
www.angelfire.com/folk/leonards/80mresults.html. While it may change, it
would seem that Chris KC8LJN led the scrap with 34 Q's, 17 states, 1 Canadian
province and 2 DX. Not a great score, but it is a beginning and, given a bit
of propagation, this might grow into something that is great fun.

Want to get rid of popup ads??? Bill NA2M says, go to
www.find.pcworld.com/30243. It really works, says he.

And that's all for tonight. We flew down from New York yesterday afternoon.
We have enjoyed the completely disturbed peace and quiet ever since and
now we find that the moving van arrives very early in the morning. Tomorrow
will be complete chaos, just like the last several days. F U N ! ! !

Re: Virus Alert !

Richard B Drake

Tom,

Actually it does have an attachment, I have received two of
them so far. However, Norton deletes the attachment and then
delivers the previously infected mail without the
attachment. That's probably why Erika thought it didn't have
an attachment.

Bye the way guys you are only protected from this one if
your virus definitions are newer than September 30. So, get
those definitions updated!!!

decent anti-virus program. Just
got the bugbear, but Norton took care of it.
Be careful, it doesn't come as an attachment !

John AG4CZ <ag4cz@...>

Hey all. Wow has the club grown! It has been a long 10 months for me,
but I am back. I will be on PSK starting this Sunday. Oh how I have
missed that little trace on the waterfall. What better way to kick
things off than a little mobile expedition. I will be setting the
station up in the car for a trip from Louisville Kentucky to Ft.
Bragg, NC. Hope to work many of my old friends and lots of new ones
from many of the rest stops along the way. Good chance to get in some
new grid squares for some hopefully :)

I really have to pay more attention to those "Reply To" addresses.

Both of those were supposed to go to Dave, not the list.

Sorry for the wasted bandwidth.

-5 watts to attic dipole, nhl, bits of david, etc.

But's he's in the log, and you're in his. That's what counts.

Steve

Good Job!
