Subject: [070] APE Update

The final preparations are being made for our two APEs, starting
this weekend. The computer and radio are checked out, and I've
even finished constructing and testing a new vertical antenna.

The antenna is the one that was in the July QST. It's a little flimsy,
so I'll probably have to guy it to withstand the oceanfront breezes.
But I managed to get it tuned up on most of the appropriate bands.

I found reasonable matches on 40, 30, 20, 17, and 15 meters. 12
and 10 were a little squirrely, so I may not be able to operate much
on those bands. But I was able to work two stations in Florida this
afternoon on 20, with the antenna set up on our back deck and the
FT-817 in the family room, with 559 and 579 reports. Both of those
stations were using G5RV antennas. So if I can work THEM from
HERE, then I should be able to work a lot of YOU from the APE
QTHs.

As I had previously said, I will not have regular internet access from
either location. So if anyone wants to set up a particular sked,
please let me know by this Friday, 9 August. This is especially
true for anyone who will be relatively local, who would like to try 40
or 30.

If anyone has any questions, please feel free to email me.

73,
Steve

Hi Steve,
Hey! good on ya! mate :) Would like a sked at both locales but since
this is your vacation, you call the shots. Sat/Sun nights or anytime Sat/
Sun, or indeed any evening. Try and fit me in with other skeds. That would
be easier for you I think. Ernie

APE -- in December

Peter Baskind <pbaskind@...>

OK,

I couldn't get anything going for APE this month, but it looks like I'll
have something up for December.

I have reservations for 5 nights on Ambergris Caye (NA-73), Belize, in late
December. Operation, though, will be contingent on successfully getting a
V31 call, as Belize is not a CEPT signatory.

I would imagine I would be active on 20, 10, and 6 (if open). 6m would be
mostly voice, I assume. I don't have Belize on 6, so I would imagine a lot
of folks don't either. It's an easy single-hop E to the Southern US -- and
there may even be F2 around Christmas, if the SFI holds out.

Gotta get my paperwork to Belize City. I won't be in the City long, so I'll
have to do it by remote control. Wish me luck.

Hey Charlie, are you gonna do Steve like you did Erika, and make him go to
Dayton next year to pick up his cert ?

Re: Jim's GAZETTE Newsletter #127

Jay,

I put it in the TARA calendar Friday night, I could not sleep so I entered
the contests for the rest of the year that I knew of. I put the event name
as PODXS 070 Club 80m Autumn Sprint. I think he might of been looking at it
and just did not look close enough.

Jay,
I sure hope you sent Jim's Gazette an errata on his short notes. He says
"TARA announced the first ever 80 meter sprint" and gives Bernies web
address. Did Bernie change his allegiance or is this a typo on Jims part
(I
hope). I thought it was an 070 Club event.

73,
Jay - AA8QQ
