Okay, what kind of power and antennas were you guys running? I
have six meters on the radio, but only five watts. And unless I can
get one of the HF wire dipoles to tune on 6m, the only antenna I
have is an extended rubber duck.

Steve
W3HF

Yeah, that was fun. I'll try for some more contacts on 6m tomorrow
evening. Sorry I didn't hear either Jay or Dick. Nice QRP signal

Steve-

I am an attic boy, like I understand you are. I have been able, though, to
squeeze a 3-element Cushcraft 6m beam up above the joists in the attic. I
rotate it on a $30 Radio Shack rotator. I generally run 100 watts, but
often work at 5, depending on the opening, whether I am too lazy to move the
antenna connection between the 817 and the 756, and how the mood strikes me.
:)

But, of course, on 6m one doesn't need very much for sporadic E -- signals
get quite big. I have worked many guys running dipoles and QRP on phone.
In your case, perhaps a squalo might be a good option. M2 makes a nice one.
With signals running as loud as they were tonight, even at 5 watts, I would
be shocked if you couldn't have knocked out a dozen or more Qs.

6m... a really fun band. It's my favorite. But, it can be frustrating.

Peter

6m... that was fun.

Worked 3 QSOs on 6m PSK -- all QRP, of course.

Big fun. Thanks Jay, Dick, and Karen. We should do this again.

Re: Hamstick

Charles Goldwater <k6ceg@...>

Yes, fair success with a HamStick dipole and some what better success with a
HamStick beam. Please look in QRZ at VE6VK Russ Wilson, he has a web site
listed and has very good details on how to build a HamStick Dipole and three
element Beam.
Good luck

Wow. I am *truly* honored. What a surprise! Gosh, I'm (almost) without
words.

I am not a joiner by nature. But I made such a good move though to join all
y'all in this fine PSK group. I've never been associated with a nicer
bunch.

I was off the air for about 10 years when this thing called "life" got in
the way. I kept reading QST and this PSK thing bit me. And I'm so glad it
did.

Thanks to all for this great honor and for the congratulatory notes. I'm
happy to splurge for the beer and pretzels next time. In fact I look
forward to it.

Re: PODXS Class of 2002

Charlie Trice, K8IJ <cctrice@...>

Wow. I am *truly* honored. What a surprise! Gosh, I'm (almost) without
words.

I am not a joiner by nature. But I made such a good move though to join all
y'all in this fine PSK group. I've never been associated with a nicer
bunch.

I was off the air for about 10 years when this thing called "life" got in
the way. I kept reading QST and this PSK thing bit me. And I'm so glad it
did.

Thanks to all for this great honor and for the congratulatory notes. I'm
happy to splurge for the beer and pretzels next time. In fact I look
forward to it.

Vy 73,

Chas, K8IJ

Subject: [070] PODXS Class of 2002

Hi All,

Each year the president of PODXS is blessed with the chance to hand pick a
few hams to become Honorary PODXS members. These selections are based on
their (non-monetary) contributions to the art of amateur radio. This may
or
may not be associated with PODXS or the 070 Club. As this years
president, I
am proud and happy to announce the Class of 2002. They are:

KF4FHS - Bernie Leonard
for his management of the Low band sprints and the 070 SWL program

and

K8IJ - Charlie Trice
for his management of the LONP Award and his sage input to the
rest
of the PODXS gang.

Thanks to both of these Amateurs for their commitment and dedication to
this
great hobby. They will each receive a Certificate of Membership and are
afforded all the rights of Honorary membership in the Penn-Ohio DX
Society.

73 to all, and thanks again to Bernie and Chas,
Jay - AA8QQ Pres. PODXS

Hey Jay and the Gang,

Man, this is a surprise. You fellers sure can keep a secret.

I am greatly honored to be picked as one of the Class of 2002.

The 070 Club has done a lot more for me than I have for it. Since joining
in December 2001, I have made more friends, been more active, enjoyed Ham
Radio more than ever before, and actually found a club that is fun to be in.
I'm sure it would be hard to find a club, with well over 200 members, who
all get along as well as the folks in the 070 Club do.

Thanks again Guys, for this honor.
73, Bernie / KF4FHS

Re: Hamstick

w1sql@...

Jay,
That could work if I could get them spread out and down. We have
some very busy anchorages here in Long Island sound and I don't want to
catch a 30 foot cruiser on one of those reels. It's recommended that you
have 100 square feet of ground plane for marine HF which is close to the 80
and 40 meter band. I will probably be using it more on 10-15 and 20 meters
so I think I can get away with about half that. I know people who have put
copper foil inside the boat as close to the water line as they can get it.
It then is coupled to the salt water, kind of like a mag mount on you car.
Some bigger boat manufactures will inlay copper screen in the hull lay-up
for this purpose. Anyway, thanks for the idea.

Joe,
W1SQL

Hey Joe,
How about some LONG metal fishing leaders on heavy duty reels (for
retractability) like we used to use for sharks. All the better if you run
in
salt water.

Jay - AA8QQ
