Question re LONP contacts

Phil Barnett <philb@...>

Do PSK-63 contacts count for LONP awards?

I noticed that the site would not respond on several pages for the first 5
minutes of each hour. Don't know anything about the site, but it seemed
pretty consistent.

Both you and your 070 contact must already be members for the contact to
count against LONP.

The easiest way to check your standings is with the LONP checker, which is
linked from the PODXS site.

I believe you must start with contacts after both you and the other station
are 070 Members. For example, if you worked me before you were a member,
it
wouldn't count. If you'd joined before me, and worked me before I became a
member, this would also not count.

You can check out all the rules here: http://www.podxs070.com/ - but at
the
moment the site seems to be overwhelmed by folks uploading their PSKFest
2010 logs ... or some such ...

Well, they say laziness is the mother of invention, right?

I got tired of checking my LONP standings manually. Yes, I'm lazy. So what?

Digipan doesn't put your PSK-31 contacts into the log as such. It puts them
in as BPSK. If the group votes that I can consider that a log match, I can
easily make the LONP Checker work with Digipan.

LONP Checker, Version 1.1.0

Phil Barnett <philb@...>

What's New?

The new LONP checker fetches your current LONP status and uses that
information to reduce the log checking that is done to validate your
standings. Then it uses that information to create a LONP submission that
will be easier to check than the old style submissions.

There are multiple report outputs, the default is for LONP submission.

There is an alarm generator for HRD that will tell the superbrowser to alarm
you when it sees an 070 member you have not yet worked.

There is a call scrubber which will remove extraneous prefixes and suffixes
from calls, so you can clean up calls like AI4OF/9 to read AI4OF for
checking purposes.

Here's where to get the installer. Please uninstall the previous version and
make sure the \program files\LONP Checker directory is clean of the old .exe
file.

LONP Checker 1.1.0 <http://www.linuxceptional.com/LONP_Checker110.exe>

I will put up the source code as soon as we are sure it's stable and happy
and we aren't adding more features.

Like always, beat it up and tell me why it doesn't work at philb at philb
dot us.

If you find a problem, please include a log that creates the symptom in your
email.

There are some default configurations, but you can add more items to the
Call Scrubber and you can customize how the Alarm generation works.

One thing I noticed while testing is that Ham Radio Deluxe can have multiple
home directories with nearly the same name. I am saving the alarm file to
the default directory, you may need to select a different directory or at
least be aware of which directory you are saving it in so you can fetch it
with the Alarm Manager.

Phil -

I have to confess that I had never used your program until tonight. So
perhaps I missed some of the instructions that have been distributed on the
reflector. But here are two comments:

1. When I ran the program against my log, it came up with 12 fewer contacts
than I count. Every single one of them was because my log included some sort
of "callsign modifier." My policy is to log all stations exactly as they
identify on the air. For example, Jeremy N1ZZZ always signed with a /4 or a
/6, but the checker did not interpret N1ZZZ/4 or N1ZZZ/6 as a valid contact.
Likewise, Steve N6YIH was always /7. My UR7FM contact was /mm, and my N3VOP
contact was FS/N3VOP. Sometimes there were even multiple slashes--W3GCW
signed (and was logged) as W3GCW/0/qrp.
Ok, this is handled in the new version and you can add any suffix or prefix
that I did not include in the config section.

2. The checker interpreted my 2006 QSO with KD2NL as #1056 (3.5 years
before Chip joined), not #433 (Chip's dad John).

And I'm not sure how to handle this ambiguity. I'll have to think about
this one. This is probably a bug in my thinking and therefore in my code.

Digipan saves the mode ambiguously. For my LONP checker to work, the mode
must contain "psk31". Digipan saves the mode as "BPSK" which is ambiguous.
If you have a PSK63 conversation logged in Digipan, it will also say BPSK,
which is not eligible for inclusion in LONP statistics.

The program you are running it through converts the BPSK and outputs PSK31,
which is an assumption in the code which is not always true in the real
world.

I'm not saying you are submitting PSK63 transmissions, just that Digipan
saves your logs ambiguously.

If the group agrees that I can make this conversion for LONP log submission,
I can easily make this work.
