I guess that could work as long as everyone is aware of it.
However, of the 13 ham reflectors that I belong to, this is the
only one that allows attachments. Certainly, legitimate
attachments are a convenient way to distribute files but are
really not necessary. Any member can upload files to the files
area for others to access. That's safe and is what most everyone
else does.

Hi All,
Sound to me like a real good reason for a policy of
not sending ANY
attachments on the reflector.

Here's a thought though.

If one of us wants to send an attachment via the
reflector, it seems there
would be a way to include some sort of code sequence
in the Subject area,
agreed on by all on the reflector. Something that
could be standardized
by
us that no one else would normally use. A way of
notifying everyone here
that it is authentic.

Any comments? (No flames please)

Re: Fw: Wowwwwwwwwwww check it !

Bernie <kf4fhs@...>

Hey Everybody,

The virus that everyone received could possibly have come from Ernie's computer being infected, but not necessarily so, it could have come from ANY computer with his e-mail address in their address book. Some of these things can make it look like an e-mail comes from someone, and it not actually their computer that is infected. So it's a good idea for EVERYONE to scan their system with an anti-virus program, with the very latest virus definitions.

We should temporarily withold applying the tar and feathers to ole Ern's body :-)

I'm sure he didn't know that the e-mail was sent, Erika.  That can happen to any of us.  I think the main point we all have to remember is not to open ANYTHING that is attached and comes from someone you do not know.

If all you did was receive it as an e-mail attachment and did not open the file to view it, you're OK.  Just delete it, block the sender, and go on as normal.  Be sure to empty the Recycle Bin.

I follow a policy of not opening and looking at anything that ends in .exe, .com, .bat., .pif, etc.  And if it comes from someone I do not know it automatically gets deleted, and I don't care what it is.  If it comes from a friend and I don't consider them to be computer literate, it also gets deleted.  The best policy is delete it if you suspect it may be a problem.

Erika,

That absolutely true, we all know Ernie. But, this virus is a worm that sends itself to everyone in your address book. If Ernie hasn't read the reflector since last night he probably doesn't even know he has a problem. One thing for sure though he doesn't have up to date virus protection!

You have to run it, you should be OK. Do, get yourself a good
antivirus program though and keep the definitions up to date. I
knew a virus had come in before I even knew which e-mail it was
in. Norton Antivirus 2002 with Live Update - don't go on the
Internet without it.

Re: Well FD had come and gone...

Yes, I saw some of this also. Of course with PSK31 there is a
capture affect where the strongest signal wins and you don't even
see the others until the strong one stops transmitting. Then you
are likely to pick up the tail end of a transmission from the next
strongest guy in the pile. It can be really confusing and
sometimes it's hard to figure out who's talking to who. I agree
that no one should start sending an exchange before they are
acknowledged. However, this is probably sometimes occurred because
of the confusing capture affect pile. I even answered some CQ's
and wound up having someone else come back to me and start sending
their exchange. It was certainly a learning experience to see how
PSK31 performs in a very crowded band. But, it was sure great to
see all the PSK31 activity and I had a heck of a lot of fun with
my little pipsqueak 5 watt FT-817.

Played around with LP and a vertical.
Had exchanges with well over 200 PSK stations.
There was something that I noticed. It was a bit
alarming to say
the least.
Many times (yes many) I had more than one station
calling me and in
the pile there would be stations calling that
would not only send
there call but the exchange also. This is all
well and good but I
feel one should be sure they are the station that
was going to be
worked before sending the report. Interesting
enough just as they
would finish the report the others would start
calling again. Many
times I would see a report going by and only part
of a call or no
call at all.
Especially during FD (As it it a time of show and
tell with many
looking over your shoulders and we are all trying
to promote) It
might pay to be sure you are the one who is going
to be the next
contact before sending the report.
This was very obvious on PSK 31. I did not notice
this happen on
CW, SSB, RTTY or MT63 this weekend.
Maybe I was looking around the wrong area but I
did not hear any
PSK on 80, worked about 30 on 40 and the rest on
20, 15 and 10.

To all that I did work... Many thanks for being
there... Regards...
