Re: psk31 software for linux??

Ernie;
Got the program for you. Luc, LX2GT wrote kpsk for
linux running KDE 2.0 desktop. Recently I ported it to
KDE 3.0 for Luc. Currently, Luc and I are actively
developing improvements to kpsk.

There are 2 other programs that can be run TWPSK only
uses the GTK+ library. and Linpsk.

All are available on the web. kpsk is available at
sourceforge. If you (or anyone else ) wants to use Luc
and I would be more than happy to help get you started
from a sourceforge snapshot. In general we are also
looking for helpers - developers are good but when we
get a good baseline update testers will also be needed.

Well FD had come and gone...

Andy <ve9dx@...>

Played around with LP and a vertical.
Had exchanges with well over 200 PSK stations.
There was something that I noticed. It was a bit alarming to say
the least.
Many times (yes many) I had more than one station calling me and in
the pile there would be stations calling that would not only send
there call but the exchange also. This is all well and good but I
feel one should be sure they are the station that was going to be
worked before sending the report. Interesting enough just as they
would finish the report the others would start calling again. Many
times I would see a report going by and only part of a call or no
call at all.
Especially during FD (As it it a time of show and tell with many
looking over your shoulders and we are all trying to promote) It
might pay to be sure you are the one who is going to be the next
contact before sending the report.
This was very obvious on PSK 31. I did not notice this happen on
CW, SSB, RTTY or MT63 this weekend.
Maybe I was looking around the wrong area but I did not hear any
PSK on 80, worked about 30 on 40 and the rest on 20, 15 and 10.

To all that I did work... Many thanks for being there... Regards...

Re: Just abt ready for FD

Bernie <kf4fhs@...>

Hey Jay,

I've got everything ready except the things I forgot.

1 rig, 1 Laptop, 1 interface, 1 tuner, 1 antenna, 2 batteries, a couple of
coolers full of food and drink, and a bunch of other junk that I probably
won't use.

We're going to be at a farm of some friends of ours who are interested in
getting into Ham Radio, so hopefully this will give them a little insight
into some of what it's all about, and they'll probably have anything that I
have failed to bring.

Oh yeah, and 1 XYL.

Good Luck to all & 73,
Bernie / KF4FHS

Well, I got both batteries charged and except for a few things, got the
truck all loaded and ready to go! The foods of choice for me to get thru
24
hours of intense RF out in the field is nutragrain bars, cheese and
crackers,
slim jims and lots and lots of gatorade! So what are you guys packin'? Jay

Re: Attn FD ops

Richard B Drake

Thanks for forwarding that Jay.

In the aftermath of September 11 with our new focus on Homeland
Security and protection against total communications breakdowns,
it seems to me that Amateur radio has a new opportunity to shine
brightly. The phone system cam be attacked and disabled, the
internet can be attacked and disabled. But how could a million
individual amateur radio operators sprinkled all over the Americas
who are ready willing and able to provide communications in any
emergency be attacked and disabled? There is no way that could be
done. This Field Day may be one of the most significant ones in
history.

I'm planning to operate from home with my FT-817 on battery power
using portable antennas. Hope to see you all on PSK31.

This from the ARRL:
"...Field Day! This weekend is ARRL Field Day, possibly ham radio's most
popular organized operating activity. In the past this bulletin only
commented on domestic propagation for Field Day weekend, but this
year for the first time Field Day is expanded to cover all of the
Americas. The new rules say that anyone in IARU Region II may
participate, and this covers all of North, Central and South
America, Greenland, the Caribbean, as well as some Pacific Islands.
IARU Region II is the same as ITU Region II, and you can see a map
of Region II at, http://www.echelon.ca/iarumsr2/ituregions.html .

Remember that in Field Day there is no multiplier or extra credit
for number of states, sections, zones or countries worked. Contacts
with stations in all areas count the same. This distinguishes Field
Day from contests where top scorers pay close attention to working
the maximum number of multipliers. In Field Day multipliers and
extra credit are earned for operating low power, from batteries, and
for generating publicity for amateur radio's emergency preparedness
capabilities. See
http://www.arrl.org/contests/rules/2002/rules-fd-2002.html for
complete rules...."

Also, if you are looking for bonus points, you can get 100 for copying the
special W1AW FD bulletin. According to QST, they will be transmitting the
bulletin in PSK31 on Sunday at 12:00PM eastern time. You have to send the
text in along with your entry, so remember to either open up a logfile before
they begin transmission or do a copy/paste before you shut down your PSK31
software to save the text...cu on the air de Jay N3DQU.
