Back in the 80's I was QSL Manager for AH6E, Mark, a schoolteacher on Guam who was also a bit of a contester. Those were the day of paper logs - ugh ! Mark did about 25,000 Q's a year and keppt me busy. Received many cards from Japan. Mark was fairly inundated with JA's in his logs...seems like the majority of QSOs were JA's. Many had trouble converting from their local time to GMT and searching logs without benefit of a computer was punishment. Mark left Guam when all the teachers went on strike because he lost his job. The then Governor who was educated in U.S. decided to give them amnesty and promptly turned around and said "what can we do to punish them ... ? " . Not exactly a Democratic form of government. Mark later settled in CA and worked at a Radio Shack. Then he moved to a college in upstate NY in dead of Winter which was a bit of climate shock after living in Guam where it was always around 80 F. Mark's wife was originally from Belize and I had an invite to the family plantation there, but never made it. It was a good time being a QSL Manager . Jerry n9avy P.S.
