McMurdo is so-named because it's on the McMurdo Sound. (Thank you, Wikipedia.)

But you are right, Amundsen-Scott is at 90 S.

I was always told it was McMurdo because its on the South Pole.  Maybe its Admunson Scott that counts for all.

Unfortunately the only thing that counts on Antarctica is McMurdo Station, because it is on the pole thus giving you all the grids that surround it.
