Although no one "owns" a frequency, it's common courtesy to leave someone alone if he is calling CQ or running stations on that frequency. Had a "person" start calling CQ on the frequency I was using and I had been watching that frequency for about 10 minutes before calling. As sson as I sent the "K", he started caling CQ; so I just moved up. Heard him earlier on 14070 calling CQ and I was up around 14072... looks like he was on a fishing expedition.

Jerry I need to agree,
You can sit back and watch the stations running a few thousand watts to talk a few miles away
That think they own a freq because they use it every night

Brian:

Please don't take this the wrong way, but I have to say there are many digital hams out there who apparently did not read the rules (Part 97). I hear violations almost every time I'm on the air. I'm talking about U.S. hams and not DX. The rules on ID'ing are violated the most. Thank goodness they don't exceed the 10 minute rule, I've heard some on SSB do a 20 minute monologue.

When I first joined PODXS, I didn't know all the rules, but I learned as I went along and I suspect others did as well.

This is a hobby , something we do for enjoyment. After several years as an ARRL Official Observer I've exited ARRL and just about every other volunteer job because I just want to enjoy the hobby.

I have always used PSK Reporter.info maps to track band/mode activity.

Currently (4:46 UTC), they are showing 70 PSK31 signals being heard by monitoring stations on all bands in the past 15 minutes, with almost half of those signals on 20 meters. There is some DX traffic between the US and Canada and various parts of Europe. so that is promising.

However, in contrast, there are 2437 signals using FT8 in that same 15 min period involving stations in North America, South America, the Carribean, Europe, Asia (including Japan), South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. Although the largest number of signals are on 20 meters, there are some on every band from 160 meters up to 6 meters

I have not tried FT8, but I have got to admit that with poor band conditions during weak solar cycles, modes like FT8 and JT9/JT65 might be the best option for making contacts, especially if you are looking for DX. As a proponent of PSK, and PSK31 in particular, that is not an easy admission for me to make.

It is supposed to work automatically through LOTW which should work with all modes except FT8 which is not yet integrated into LOTW.
